A Vibrant Celebration of Art and Culture
The Dogwood Arts Festival made a triumphant return to World’s Fair Park this weekend, offering a rich array of activities that attracted art enthusiasts, families, and local residents. This year’s event, now in its 65th year, has become a beloved tradition in downtown Knoxville, drawing attention as one of the Top 10 best art festivals in the country according to USA TODAY’s 10Best Readers’ Choice poll.
The festival continues through Sunday, providing visitors with a diverse range of experiences. From juried artists showcasing their work to live performances and interactive workshops, there is something for everyone. The event features more than 100 fine art vendors, a vibrant Maker Market, and a variety of interactive demonstrations that engage attendees of all ages.

One of the standout participants this year is Allen Montserrat, an artist with decades of experience who returned to the festival for his second year. Montserrat is known for his oil paintings and pastels, which capture the essence of East Tennessee’s scenic landscapes. He shared insights into the dedication required to set up an artist booth, emphasizing how the festival has evolved over the years.
“I do a lot of scenes that are local here in the East Tennessee area, like Spence Cabin up at Elkmont,” Montserrat said. “I’ve even got one of the Waffle House on the Alcoa Highway, and people have memories of all of those places. And that’s a way that they connect with my artwork.”
Montserrat noted that he has enjoyed the interest generated by his booth over the past two years. He highlighted the unique aspect of the Dogwood Arts Festival compared to other events.
“One of the things I’ve really enjoyed about doing the Dogwood show last year or two is that the amount of interest that people have when they come into my booth,” Montserrat said. “A lot of shows are just walking by, and we’re there for the entertainment. But I find at the Dogwood show, I have more people who actually come into the booth and take a really serious look at my artwork. That’s the most gratifying thing about being here.”
In addition to the visual arts, the festival offers hands-on workshops throughout the weekend, allowing attendees to explore various creative disciplines. These workshops provide opportunities for both beginners and experienced artists to learn new techniques and gain inspiration from fellow creators.
Festival organizers have worked diligently to ensure that the event remains a highlight of the cultural calendar in Knoxville. With its blend of artistic expression, community engagement, and family-friendly activities, the Dogwood Arts Festival continues to thrive as a celebration of creativity and local talent.
The festival opened on Friday and will continue through Sunday at World’s Fair Park, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the vibrant atmosphere of art, music, and craftsmanship. Whether you’re an art connoisseur or simply looking for a fun day out, the Dogwood Arts Festival offers an unforgettable experience for all who attend.
