University of Benin Achieves Full Accreditation for All Degree Programmes
The University of Benin has made a significant achievement by securing full accreditation for all its degree programmes from the National Universities Commission (NUC). This is the first time in many years that the institution has received such recognition, marking a milestone in its academic journey.
This announcement was made through a statement released by the Public Relations Officer of the university, Benedicta Ehanire. The statement highlighted the successful accreditation exercise conducted by the NUC in October and November of last year, which covered all Faculties, Schools, and Centres within the university.
The results of the accreditation were officially communicated by the NUC in a letter dated April 7, 2026, addressed to the Vice Chancellor of the university. The document confirmed that all degree programmes at the University of Benin have now achieved full accreditation status, which will remain valid for five years, until 2030.
A Testament to Hard Work and Commitment
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Edoba Omoregie, expressed his excitement about the achievement. He attributed the success to the hard work and dedication of the management and staff, who have consistently strived for academic excellence while upholding high educational values.
Omoregie praised the university’s Senate, faculties, departments, and relevant committees for their tireless efforts in ensuring due diligence and meeting all the requirements set by the NUC for full accreditation. He emphasized that this accomplishment reflects the collective commitment of the entire university community to maintaining high standards of education.
Future Goals and Vision
In addition to celebrating this achievement, Omoregie reiterated his commitment to strengthening both undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes. This aligns with the objectives outlined in his five-point agenda, which focuses on enhancing the quality of education and fostering innovation across all academic disciplines.
The statement from the university also noted that the full accreditation status is a significant step forward in ensuring that the institution continues to meet national and international standards of academic excellence. It provides a solid foundation for future growth and development, allowing the university to attract more students and research opportunities.
Implications of Full Accreditation
Full accreditation brings several benefits to the university, including increased credibility and recognition. It ensures that the degrees awarded by the university are recognized nationally and internationally, which is crucial for students seeking further education or employment opportunities.
Moreover, it allows the university to participate in various academic and research collaborations, as well as access funding and support from government and private sectors. This can lead to improved infrastructure, better facilities, and enhanced teaching methods.
Looking Ahead
With this achievement, the University of Benin is well-positioned to continue its mission of providing quality education and contributing to the development of the country’s human capital. The full accreditation serves as a benchmark for other institutions to follow and sets a new standard for academic excellence in higher education.
As the university moves forward, it will focus on maintaining the high standards that led to this accreditation while exploring new avenues for growth and innovation. The commitment to academic distinction remains a core value, guiding the institution towards a brighter and more sustainable future.
