Wu-Tang Member Reveals Why He Missed Tour Dates: ‘I Said I Wasn’t Going’

Method Man Clarifies His Absence from Wu-Tang Clan’s Australian Tour

Method Man, a founding member of the legendary hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan, recently addressed fan concerns about his absence from the group’s recent tour dates in Australia. In an Instagram Live session shared on Saturday, he clarified that he had never committed to performing during the overseas leg of the tour.

“I wasn’t going. I said I wasn’t going. I said I was booked,” Method Man, whose real name is Clifford Smith Jr., explained during the live stream, as reported by People. He emphasized that he had already made his stance clear before the tour began.

Smith revealed that he had informed the group prior to their departure that he would not be traveling to Dubai or Australia. This decision, he explained, was due to his acting and other entertainment commitments. He also co-starred in the Amazon Prime Video romantic comedy Relationship Goals, which premiered on February 4, according to People.

The rapper criticized the promoters for marketing the farewell tour as featuring all living members of the Wu-Tang Clan, despite his refusal to participate. “I was seeing flyers saying all living members are going to be there and s—, and I’m looking at this s—, like they know that I haven’t agreed to go on the tour yet,” Smith said during the live stream, as reported by People.

This led to confusion among fans, especially since other members of the group, including Raekwon, Cappadonna, and Young Dirty Bastard (the son of late member Ol’ Dirty Bastard), also did not appear at the shows in Brisbane, Melbourne, or Sydney. As a result, the ticketing platform Ticketek offered refunds to concertgoers for the latter two dates, according to Billboard.

A spokesperson for the local promoter stated that all living members of the hip-hop collective were confirmed for the Australian leg, and that all visa and travel arrangements were finalized for the full group, as reported by Rolling Stone Australia. However, Method Man expressed frustration with the situation, stating that it was the second or third time such issues had occurred.

“I was seeing flyers saying all living members are going to be there and s—, and I’m looking at this s—, like they know that I haven’t agreed to go on the tour yet,” Smith said during the live stream, as reported by People.

With their farewell tour originally launched in the United States last year, the group has extended its international tour dates. The Wu-Tang Clan is set to perform in Memphis on May 2, as reported by People. They will also visit the Garden State this summer, with performances scheduled for August 28 in Atlantic City and September 11 in Holmdel.

Fans and critics alike are watching closely to see how the group will navigate these challenges moving forward. While Method Man has made his position clear, the situation highlights the complexities of managing large-scale tours with multiple high-profile artists involved.
