Hollywood’s Next 007: Stars Strike a Pose as Bond Buzz Intensifies
The rumour mill is churning faster than a shaken-not-stirred martini, with speculation rife about who will don the iconic tuxedo as the next James Bond. Adding fuel to the fire, actors Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Theo James recently struck a rather dapper pose, reminiscent of Daniel Craig’s memorable 007 overlooking the London skyline, at a photocall for their new film, Fuze.
The duo exuded a suave sophistication against a backdrop that could have easily been lifted from the blockbuster Skyfall. Taylor-Johnson, currently sitting at 11/2 odds to take on the coveted role, looked sharp in a brown suede jacket, layered over an open-collared shirt, smart trousers, and a classic Omega watch. James, with odds of 15/2, complemented the look with a lighter suede ensemble, a beige sweater, relaxed trousers, and stylish sunglasses.

The Current Contenders and the Shifting Landscape
The betting agencies are clearly watching these Hollywood heavyweights closely. While Taylor-Johnson and James are generating significant buzz, the current frontrunners in the race to become the next big-screen Bond are Jacob Elordi, leading the pack at 5/4, and Callum Turner, close behind at 6/4.
The landscape of the James Bond franchise has undergone a significant shift. Following Amazon’s acquisition of MGM in 2022, the tech giant secured full creative control of the 007 universe. This came about through a landmark deal struck with Barbara and Michael Broccoli, the children of the legendary original James Bond producer, Albert R. Broccoli. The Broccoli siblings have been at the helm of the franchise since 1995, inheriting the reins from their father and guiding Eon Productions. The agreement with Amazon, finalised in March 2025, saw the streaming giant reportedly invest upwards of $1 billion to gain this creative authority.
Betting Lines and Future Prospects
The stakes are undeniably high, and the financial commitment from Amazon underscores the immense value placed on the Bond legacy. Here’s a snapshot of the current odds:
- Jacob Elordi – 5/4
- Callum Turner – 6/4
- Aaron Taylor-Johnson – 11/2
- Theo James – 15/2
- Henry Cavill – 16/1
The acquisition by Amazon has inevitably led to a surge of speculation about the future direction of the franchise. Bond has a rich history of video game adaptations dating back to the 1980s, ranging from early shooting games to text-based adventures where players dictated the spy’s actions. Now, with Amazon at the creative helm, the possibilities are endless, and the pressure to deliver a fresh yet faithful interpretation is immense.
Location, Location, Location: A New Bond Setting?
Amazon executives are reportedly exploring various filming locations for the next instalment, with industry experts predicting a release date at the end of next year or in 2027. A significant development is the potential shift away from the traditional London backdrop. Due to a filming ban currently in place in central London, new settings are being scouted, with Liverpool emerging as a strong contender, according to reports.

An insider reportedly commented on this potential change, acknowledging that it might not sit well with Bond purists who are already apprehensive about Amazon’s influence. However, Liverpool is a well-established filming hub, having served as a stand-in for various international cities in productions like The Batman, Captain America, and the Harry Potter films. This doesn’t necessarily mean the story will be set in Liverpool itself, but eagle-eyed viewers might well recognise the city’s distinctive cityscape.
Amazon’s Vision for 007
The acquisition by Amazon, following their purchase of MGM Studios, has sparked fears among fans that the beloved franchise could be diluted with endless spin-offs, drawing parallels to the expansion of franchises like Star Wars. While the initial deal granted Amazon distribution rights, the subsequent investment appears to have secured them full creative control.
Reports suggest that Amazon is fast-tracking the production of the new Bond film. Crucially, there are indications that the next movie will steer clear of certain narrative devices that have been debated in the past. This includes the absence of an explanation for how the agent is still alive, a departure from the idea of a multiverse of Bonds, and no attempt to revisit a vintage, 1960s-era Bond.
While Barbara Broccoli was once thought to favour Aaron Taylor-Johnson for the role, it’s understood that producers like Heyman and Pascal will likely want to have their say in selecting the next actor to embody the iconic secret agent. The future of 007 is certainly in exciting, and perhaps transformative, hands.
