Leaked Whiteboard Analysis Sparks Debate
A recent leak of a whiteboard analysis from the Brisbane Lions’ training facility has sparked significant discussion among football fans and analysts. The document, which was shared on social media by members of the public, contained detailed assessments of several Essendon players. The content reportedly highlighted both their strengths and weaknesses, with some notable criticisms directed at key players.
Among those mentioned were Zach Merrett and Kyle Langford, who were labeled as ‘selfish.’ Ben McKay was noted for having ‘low confidence,’ while Bombers midfielder Elijah Tsatas was described as ‘fumbly.’ Defender Saad El-Hawli’s ‘defensive accountability’ came under scrutiny, and Xavier Duursma’s ‘decision making’ was also questioned. These comments have raised concerns about the internal discussions that take place within football clubs and how such information might be shared outside of these environments.
The photos of the whiteboard were uploaded to an Essendon Supporters Group private Facebook page on Friday. The Brisbane Lions’ training facility, known as the Brighton Homes Arena, is often accessible to the public, which may have contributed to the leak. According to Wide World of Sports, the Lions have confirmed that the images are genuine, adding credibility to the claims surrounding the leak.

Reactions from Former Coaches and Players
Former Brisbane coach Leigh Matthews expressed his surprise at the leak, stating that the club would likely be ‘mortified’ by the incident. He emphasized that such internal discussions are typically meant for private consumption. “It’s not unusual. It’s just embarrassing that it has seen the light of day,” Matthews told 3AW. He added, “You would be mortified. This is something we’re talking about that’s not meant for public consumption.”
Sam Docherty, a former Carlton captain, echoed similar sentiments, noting that the situation would not be taken lightly internally by the Brisbane Lions. “This would not be a laughing matter internally (at Brisbane),” he said, highlighting the seriousness of the issue.
Brisbane Lions’ Strong Performance
Despite the controversy surrounding the leaked whiteboard, the Brisbane Lions delivered a strong performance in their recent match against Essendon. On Saturday, they dominated at Marvel Stadium, securing a 64-point victory in Melbourne. Zac Bailey, Logan Morris, and Kai Lohmann each kicked four goals, showcasing the team’s attacking prowess.
Defender Darcy Wilmot was another standout performer, recording 32 possessions and scoring a long-range goal. His contributions were crucial in maintaining the team’s momentum throughout the game.
Positive News for Essendon
While the Brisbane Lions had a successful outing, Essendon managed to find some positive news in the match. Utility player Nik Cox made a notable return, playing his first game in 630 days after dealing with repeated concussion issues. His presence on the field was a significant moment for the team and its supporters.
