Tears on Set: Will Best’s Emotional Turn on Celebrity Catchphrase for a Cause
Saturday’s episode of Celebrity Catchphrase promises to be a tear-jerker as Big Brother star Will Best finds himself overcome with emotion, prompting host Stephen Mulhern to offer a consoling embrace. While the specific trigger for Best’s tears remains undisclosed, the show’s network, ITV, has confirmed his participation will be in support of a charity profoundly important to him.

The chosen charity, Arts for All, is a London-based initiative dedicated to fostering creativity for individuals from all walks of life. A source close to the production described the atmosphere as deeply moving, stating, “There wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Will is such a lovely guy and everyone really empathised with him when he broke down. It’s such a fun show to be a part of but it can also be quite intense under those bright studio lights, so emotions are heightened.”

At 41 years old, Will Best isn’t the only familiar face gracing the Celebrity Catchphrase studio this Saturday. He’ll be competing against a strong lineup, including 35-year-old Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden and 43-year-old Coronation Street actor Samia Longchambon.
Best spoke passionately about his connection to Arts for All. “They’re a super small charity based just down the road from where I live,” he explained. “They do art projects and art sessions for adults with disabilities and learning difficulties, and for kids who wouldn’t get access to that kind of stuff [normally].” He highlighted the vital role the organisation plays, particularly for a small group of adults who attend twice weekly. “It’s genuinely a lifeline for them,” he added, revealing the significant challenges the charity is currently facing. “In the last year, their rent has gone up by 150%. The cost of living is really hitting them and grants are harder to come by because of cuts. The charity is a tiny team – it’s just a couple of people who run it.”
The Game of Catchphrase
The popular Celebrity Catchphrase format challenges contestants to decipher a phrase represented by a series of increasingly complex animated graphics. The ultimate goal is to “say what they see” to win. The show offers a substantial top prize of up to £50,000, which contestants play for on behalf of their chosen charities.
A Look Back: Olivia Attwood’s Challenging Round
The news of Will Best’s emotional turn comes after another notable contestant, Olivia Attwood, faced her own set of challenges on the show last year. Attwood, widely recognised for her appearance on Love Island, had a promising start but was ultimately stumped by a particularly perplexing graphic in the final round.

The graphic in question depicted a tennis ball appearing fearful of a judge’s wig, accompanied by two rackets positioned within the dock of a courtroom. Attwood, attempting to decipher the visual puzzle, guessed “playing both sides” before ultimately passing on the question.
The intended answer, as revealed by the show, was a deceptively simple “tennis court,” a testament to the sometimes-misleading nature of the graphics.
