Chuck Norris’s Near-Fatal Health Scare: A Decade Before His Passing
The legendary martial artist and actor Chuck Norris, who passed away on March 19th, faced a harrowing medical emergency nearly a decade prior to his death that medical professionals deemed capable of felling most individuals. In 2017, at the age of 77, Norris, renowned for his indomitable on-screen persona, survived two massive, consecutive heart attacks. The incident necessitated a rapid response, involving both ambulances and helicopters to transport him to urgent medical care.
A source close to the situation commented on the severity of the event, stating, “This would have easily killed most men half his age, but Chuck is still at the peak of physical fitness.” This dramatic ordeal unfolded shortly after Norris, the iconic star of Walker, Texas Ranger, made an appearance at the United Fighting Arts Federation’s World Championships held in Las Vegas.
Following the event, Norris embarked on a nine-hour journey home to Chester, California, accompanied by his wife, Gena O’Kelley, and other family members. Their trip included a planned stopover at the Tonopah Station Hotel and Casino, situated in a remote part of Nevada.
A Sudden Collapse in Nevada
An employee at the hotel’s front desk recalled the events of that night, noting, “Chuck’s wife checked the group into the hotel around 1:30 in the morning. He was on the casino floor a little while, and then went to his room.”
Tragically, at approximately 5:30 a.m., Norris experienced a sudden collapse. He was found to be suffering from severe chest pains while in the shower.

The distressing scene unfolded as shocked hotel patrons witnessed emergency responders rushing the ailing actor on a stretcher through the casino. He was then swiftly transferred to an ambulance for the arduous 100-mile journey to Mt. Grant General Hospital in Hawthorne, Nevada.
Heart Stopped, Twice: A Battle for Survival
The situation escalated dramatically during the lengthy ambulance ride. Reports indicate that Norris stopped breathing, and medical professionals were forced to use a defibrillator to restart his heart.

Adding to the crisis, his heart reportedly stopped for a second time upon arrival at the hospital. Eyewitnesses confirmed that after medical personnel managed to stabilise him, he was airlifted to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno via a trauma helicopter.
A separate source close to the family revealed the intense nature of the situation: “It was touch and go. I was told his wife was allowed to ride in the med flight with him. Everything happened so fast that it felt like he died twice in 47 minutes! There was so much hysteria it’s impossible to know how long the ordeal lasted. People were watching the heart monitor – not the clock!”

A Family’s Grief and a Public Farewell
As previously reported, the news of Chuck Norris’s passing at the age of 86 was confirmed by his loved ones on March 26th. This announcement came just a day after reports surfaced detailing his receipt of emergency medical services in Hawaii.

The family shared their profound sorrow in a statement released via Instagram: “It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning. While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he was surrounded by his family and was at peace. To the world, he was a martial artist, actor, and a symbol of strength. To us, he was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, an incredible brother, and the heart of our family.”
Norris’s legacy extends far beyond his on-screen performances, embodying a spirit of resilience and strength that captivated audiences worldwide. His life was marked by extraordinary physical prowess and a battle against adversity that showcased his remarkable fortitude, even in the face of life-threatening circumstances.
