The couple, who reportedly tied the knot in 2020, had been married for nearly six years. Their separation, according to reports, occurred approximately a year prior to these recent legal developments.
In a statement released to People magazine, Ngatikaura expressed the gravity of his decision. “This has not been an easy decision and it comes with a heavy heart,” he stated. He went on to acknowledge the shared experiences and lessons learned during their marriage, adding, “While our paths are now moving in different directions, my priority remains my children and ensuring they feel loved, supported, and protected through this transition. I am committed to handling this next chapter with kindness and respect.”
This sentiment echoes earlier statements made by Draper herself. In November, she had spoken to People about experiencing “emotional abuse” from her husband, though at that time, they were reportedly undergoing a 90-day separation period involving therapy. Ngatikaura had also previously taken accountability for the pain he had caused Draper during their marriage, acknowledging his role in their marital difficulties.
