Joy Behar, 83, Drops 25lbs on GLP-1 Meds

Celebrities Open Up on Weight Loss Journeys: Joy Behar and Co-hosts Reveal Success with GLP-1 Medications

In a candid discussion on daytime television, veteran TV personality Joy Behar, 83, revealed she has shed 25 pounds thanks to a GLP-1 medication. The revelation came during a segment on Wednesday’s episode of The View, where the topic of weight loss drugs and the associated stigma was explored. Behar, who first joined the iconic talk show in 1997, joined her co-hosts in sharing personal experiences with these medications.

The conversation was prompted by guest host Savannah Chrisley, who spoke about the shame some individuals feel when discussing the use of medications like Ozempic for weight management. Chrisley shared her own motivation for using such a drug: “People are made to feel so much shame around doing it, and it isn’t. People do it for health-related reasons. I personally did it because I was pre-diabetic.”

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg chimed in, admitting her own use of a similar medication. “I did it because I was almost 300 pounds and I’m looking good now,” Goldberg stated. Behar then added her personal success, “I lost 25,” before addressing the live audience with a broader statement, “We all did it!”

While Behar has not publicly named the specific medication she used or when her weight loss journey commenced, other prominent figures in Hollywood, such as Oprah Winfrey and Meghan Trainor, have openly discussed their use of these drugs. This isn’t the first time The View has touched upon the subject. In 2024, Behar defended singer Kelly Clarkson, who had faced criticism for her own weight loss attributed to GLP-1 medication. At the time, Behar articulated her stance on dieting: “Diets do not work. I’ve been on diets up and down, up and down. You lose it, then you gain it back.” She further commented on the societal desire for weight loss, noting, “Nobody wants to be fat except a sumo wrestler. It’s uncomfortable, your clothes don’t fit, everybody wants to lose weight.”

Savannah Chrisley’s Weight Loss and Pharmaceutical Preferences

Savannah Chrisley also shared her significant weight loss achievements, revealing she has dropped 40 pounds while using a GLP-1 medication. In November of last year, she had openly discussed her goal to lose nearly 30 pounds on her Unlocked podcast. At that time, she weighed close to 160 pounds and aimed to reach around 135 pounds.

Chrisley recalled a previous experience with a weight loss medication that completely suppressed her appetite, an effect she did not enjoy. However, she expressed a strong preference for tirzepatide, a specific GLP-1 medication. “I love tirzepatide,” she stated. “It doesn’t give me all the side effects that some of these other ones give people. So then I can compare my bloodwork before taking it and after taking it and see where my biological age is, how my A1C is, all those things.”

Despite the potential for negative commentary, Chrisley remains unfazed, emphasising personal well-being. “I just believe as long as you feel good in your body, that’s all that matters,” she asserted. “And I want to be skinny. I want people to be like, ‘Is she okay?'” While she desires a slimmer physique, she also made it clear, “I don’t want to lose my a** but I want to be pretty thin.”

Whoopi Goldberg’s Journey and Behar’s Aesthetic Treatments

Whoopi Goldberg previously disclosed in 2024 that she used Mounjaro, another GLP-1 medication, to achieve her weight loss. She admitted to weighing almost 300 pounds when she worked on the 2022 film Till. Goldberg’s decision to pursue weight loss medication stemmed from a moment of self-reflection. “I just always felt like me,” she recalled. “And then I saw me and I thought, ‘Oh! That’s a lot of me!'”

Separately, Joy Behar recently addressed speculation about cosmetic procedures, particularly whether she had undergone a facelift. In an interview with People earlier this month, Behar firmly denied having a facelift. Instead, she revealed that she opts for Botox and fillers to maintain her youthful appearance. “I happen to have good skin,” Behar commented. “I inherited that from my mother. I don’t really have a lot of wrinkles. And I’m lucky that I have a lot of hair. I do have a lot of hair; I never lost it.”

To enhance her cheekbones, Behar undergoes treatments with Restylane, a hyaluronic acid filler known for its versatility in achieving various aesthetic looks. “Anybody can have high cheekbones,” Behar explained. “Because it’s fat or collagen or whatever the hell they put in there. It’s not really bones.” She further elaborated on her preference for fillers over Botox, stating, “The filler is actually way better than the Botox. The Botox, I don’t know what that does. It freezes lines on your forehead, I guess.”

Behar’s long tenure on The View has seen its own share of ups and downs. She initially joined the program in 1997, was later fired in 2013, and then returned as a main co-host in 2015. Reflecting on her departure, she previously told Time Magazine, “I was glad to be fired. I was basically was sick of the show at that point for some reason, I don’t even remember why.” Her subsequent return highlights her enduring presence and influence in broadcast television.
