Junior Andre: 9-5 Grind Fuels Music Dreams, Defies ‘Nepo Baby’ Tag

Junior Andre: Paving His Own Path in Music, Far from the “Nepo Baby” Label

Junior Andre, the 20-year-old son of pop icon Peter Andre and reality star Katie Price, has firmly pushed back against the “nepo baby” label, asserting that his burgeoning music career is entirely self-funded through a demanding full-time job on the London Underground. The aspiring musician, who has already seen his debut single “Slide” and follow-up track “Only One” top the UK’s iTunes pop charts, insists that success in the music industry requires hard graft and cannot simply be handed to him.

While Junior’s early musical achievements, including signing his first record deal, mirrored his father’s trajectory, a period of quiet on the music front led to speculation. He recently revealed that this hiatus was due to overcoming “a couple of challenges,” with new music set to arrive “in due time.”

In a candid conversation on his younger sister Princess’s reality show, The Princess Diaries, Junior elaborated on these challenges, highlighting the financial realities of pursuing a music career. He disclosed that he’s secured a standard 9-to-5 position and has even undertaken night shifts working on the Tube, all to finance his musical ambitions. “I don’t live off my mum and dad like people think,” he stated emphatically.

Princess, 18, expressed immense pride in her elder brother’s dedication. “His last two singles went in at number one,” she noted, “but while he was sorting differences out with his label, he went to work through the nights and work a full-time job, so he was fully self-sufficient. Which I’m super proud of.”

Speaking from a recording studio, Junior shared the difficulties he’s faced. “It’s been a long time coming and it’s been hard,” he admitted. “You know I’ve obviously had to do nine-to-five, Monday to Friday, I’ve done night shifts because you have to actually pay to do music. People don’t really know that. And I live off myself, I don’t live off mum and dad like people think that we do.”

He further emphasised this point directly to the camera: “I’ve really learned that I’ve got to work for what I want. It’s not just going to be handed to me. I found a night job basically just working on the London underground, grafting, lifting heavy metals, cutting, filing, painting. I got them jobs so I could do my music career, so I could fund it.”

The satisfaction of earning his success is a driving force for Junior. “When I do achieve what I set out to achieve, I’m gonna be so grateful because I know I worked so hard for it,” he added. Both Junior and Princess voiced their shared disdain for the “nepo baby” tag, believing they possess their own distinct talents.

Princess articulated her frustration: “It really annoys me when people are like, ‘Oh, you’re only where you are because of your parents’.”

Junior concurred, adding, “Yeah and people say nepo babies, but I’m doing what I love and what I’m inspired to do. And it’s great that my dad was part of that. My love for music is intense; I love performing just like my dad.”

Princess highlighted the public’s lack of awareness regarding Junior’s commitment: “People say that but people don’t know that you worked a 9 to 5 job. Do you know what I mean? Like we can both appreciate the fact we’ve been brought up with a lot of privileges. But the thing is now, we’re going our own ways, we’ve got our own talents that we’re doing.”

Beyond his musical aspirations, Junior appears to be exploring opportunities in the television and film industries. In October, he joined his father Peter’s acting agency, Ignite Elite Artists.

Just last week, it was announced that Junior will star alongside his father in the upcoming film Finding My Voice, scheduled for release on March 28. He will also share the screen with established actors such as Michelle Ryan (known for her role as Zoe Slater in EastEnders), Kierston Wareing, and Vicki Michelle.

The film centres on Melanie (played by Anais Garness), a gifted singer-songwriter grappling with family separation and questioning her musical path. The movie’s official Instagram account introduced Junior’s character, Johnny, describing him as Mel’s supportive school friend. The accompanying stills show Junior in a school uniform, interacting with his co-stars.

Peter Andre expressed his pride in the comments section, simply posting, “Yea my son,” accompanied by flame emojis. This acting venture follows Peter Andre’s previous on-screen experience, including a role in the 2021 film On The Other Foot.
