Klopp Hails Salah as “Irreplaceable” Ahead of Anfield Farewell
Jurgen Klopp, the former Liverpool manager, has spoken out about the impending departure of star forward Mohamed Salah, labelling the Egyptian international as “irreplaceable” and predicting his Premier League achievements will stand the test of time. Salah confirmed earlier this week that he will be leaving Anfield at the end of the current season, sparking widespread discussion about his legacy and future.
Klopp, who oversaw Salah’s arrival at Liverpool in June 2017 for a fee of £36.9 million, watched as the winger transformed from a promising signing into one of the club’s all-time legends. Over nearly a decade, Salah has amassed a remarkable collection of trophies and individual accolades, etching his name into Liverpool folklore.
While Salah is yet to announce his next career move, Klopp believes the 33-year-old still possesses the physical prowess and mental fortitude to continue playing at a high level for “another six or seven years somewhere if he wants.”

Klopp, who has made a few brief returns to Merseyside in his capacity as an honorary LFC Foundation ambassador, was attending a series of charity events. He was also present at Anfield for a sold-out legends game against his former club, Borussia Dortmund. Despite his relaxed ambassadorial role, the conversation inevitably turned to Salah’s imminent departure.
“Yes, this specific kind of player is irreplaceable,” Klopp stated. “That’s always how it is. There will be a void that somebody will fill. It’s always in our minds how much time, how much space – yeah, how much time do we give to whoever is going to play there in whatever system the manager will play.”
Unmatched Goalscoring Prowess from the Wing
The former Liverpool boss elaborated on Salah’s unique contribution, particularly his extraordinary goalscoring record from a wide attacking position.
“But Mo Salah? I’m not sure there is even another one existing out there,” Klopp continued. “There are other people playing on that wing with different strengths, different qualities but it is the numbers he produces – they are unmatched from that position.”

Klopp highlighted the remarkable statistics Salah has achieved, which blur the lines between winger and striker. “I don’t know if there was ever any player who had that (from there). You tell him he is a winger or a striker he says: ‘no, no, no I am a winger.’ The numbers for a winger, ridiculous. For a striker they are pretty much unmatched. That’s how it is. So, if it is impossible, why should you try?”
A Legacy of Excellence
While Klopp is no longer in a managerial position to influence player recruitment or tactical decisions at Liverpool, he expressed confidence in the club’s ability to adapt.
“I’m not in the role to advise anyone,” he said. “But just bring players in and play the kind of football which can be successful. That is pretty much everything. He is an all-time great. One day we will have a legends team with all these current players in and it will be good fun.”
Salah’s tenure at Liverpool has been nothing short of spectacular. Since arriving, he has consistently been the team’s talisman, leading them to Premier League and Champions League glory. His ability to find the back of the net with regularity, coupled with his searing pace and intelligent movement, has made him a nightmare for opposition defences.
The sheer volume of goals scored by Salah, particularly from a wide-left position, is a statistical anomaly in modern football. Many wingers are tasked with creating chances and providing assists, but Salah has redefined the role by combining elite playmaking with prolific goalscoring. This dual threat has been instrumental in Liverpool’s success under both Klopp and his successor.
As the club prepares to navigate the post-Salah era, the challenge will be immense. Finding a player who can replicate his goal output, influence on the game, and consistent availability will be a monumental task. However, as Klopp noted, football is a game of adaptation, and while Salah’s specific brand of brilliance may be unique, Liverpool has a history of rising to meet new challenges. The void left by his departure will undoubtedly be felt, but the foundations he helped build are strong, and the club will look to build upon his incredible legacy.
