Lucy Mecklenburgh Defends Mother’s Day Choices Amidst Online Criticism
Former TOWIE star Lucy Mecklenburgh, 34, has fiercely defended her decision to attend her younger sister’s 30th birthday celebration over Mother’s Day, shutting down an online troll who questioned her parenting choices. The reality TV personality took to Instagram to share highlights from the adults-only party, where she and fiancé Ryan Thomas, 41, enjoyed a much-needed break from their parental duties.
However, the celebratory posts drew criticism from one follower who questioned why Lucy wasn’t spending Mother’s Day with her children, Roman, six, and daughter Lilah, three. The comment read: “So u spent Mother’s Day without your children? Poor kids spent the day without their mum on Mother’s Day and were at their auntie and uncle’s house instead not quite the same…I know it was Lucy’s sisters 30th but why couldn’t they have a joint celebration??”
Lucy, clearly unimpressed, retorted with a sharp, “I really selfishly went to my sisters 30th birthday.” Her response was met with an outpouring of support from fans who rallied to her defence. Many commended her on her parenting and criticised the negativity of the comment.
- “Some people are horrible. You’re a great mum x”
- “There’s always one. Do better.”
- “Disappointing that this unnecessary comment came from a woman. God forbid a woman has a life outside of motherhood. I bet you wouldn’t shame a man in this way.”

The public exchange comes at a time when Lucy has been candid about her ongoing health journey. In November, she underwent laparoscopy surgery to treat endometriosis, a condition she has battled with for years. The procedure aims to remove as much endometrial tissue as possible.
Lucy had previously spoken about her hesitation to have the surgery, admitting she had delayed it because she felt her symptoms weren’t “as bad as other people’s.” She also confessed to experiencing significant anxiety about the surgery and the subsequent recovery period.
“One of the anxieties I had about the surgery was not knowing how that day looked and going into it completely blind, I found that really intimidating,” Lucy shared with her Instagram followers. She explained that her symptoms, which included “fatigue, bloating, constipation and back pain,” didn’t seem as severe as those experienced by others who suffer from “awful, crippling period pains and fertility issues.”

Despite her initial reservations, Lucy eventually reached a point where she felt compelled to prioritise her well-being. “I’ve had enough. It felt like time to do something for me,” she admitted. She detailed her efforts to manage her condition through lifestyle changes, stating, “I eat well, I exercise, I’ve tried to make changes to my lifestyle and yes it helps when I don’t eat processed food.” While these changes offered some relief, she felt she couldn’t continue to live with the constant discomfort.
Lucy received her official endometriosis diagnosis in early 2024. She revealed that the condition had significantly impacted her life since the birth of her daughter Lilah, who is now three years old. The mother of two expressed surprise at the diagnosis, as her symptoms did not include the period pain and fertility issues that are commonly associated with endometriosis. Her openness about her experiences aims to shed light on the multifaceted nature of the condition and encourage others to seek help.
