2026 Toyota Yaris Cross Unveiled with RAV4 Style, Australia Details Pending

New Facelift for the 2026 Toyota Yaris Cross in Europe

The European-market version of the Toyota Yaris Cross has undergone a new facelift, drawing inspiration from the latest design elements seen on the RAV4. This update is not yet confirmed for the Australian market, as the local models are manufactured in a different factory.

The 2026 Toyota Yaris Cross, which was first introduced in 2020, will be available in Europe later this year. The updated model features a honeycomb mesh-pattern front grille, a design element that has been seen on newer Toyota models such as the RAV4, Corolla Cross, and HiLux.

However, it remains uncertain whether these changes will be applied to the Australian version. European models are produced in France, while Australian examples are sourced from Japan.

Styling and Design Updates

The Yaris Cross has received several styling updates, including a revised headlight design, new 17- and 18-inch alloy wheels, and two fresh exterior colors: Precious Bronze and Persian Salt. The latter replaces the previous Shimmering Silver color.

The GR Sport grade has also been updated with a dedicated front bumper design, similar to the Corolla Cross and RAV4 GR Sport grades. This design gives the Yaris Cross a look that is reminiscent of the GR Yaris and GR Corolla hot hatches.

Inside the cabin, the Yaris Cross now offers improved seat comfort and better lateral support. Additionally, there is a platinum-coloured door trim and instrument panel insert.

Eco-Friendly Innovations

Certain grades of the Yaris Cross have been equipped with a new ‘SakuraTouch’ seat material. This innovative material is made from plant-derived plastic, waste cork, and recycled polyurethane. Toyota claims that this material reduces CO2 emissions during production by 95 per cent compared to genuine leather.

The European-market Yaris Cross was last updated in 2024, with improvements to noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH). It also received an available 10.5-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

French-built examples, including the Yaris hatchback, have also received an upgraded version of their 1.5-litre four-cylinder hybrid system. This includes a more powerful electric motor-generator and a revised power control unit, increasing the combined output from 85kW to 96kW.

Differences Between European and Japanese Models

Fewer changes were applied to the Japanese-built version of the Yaris Cross. These models feature an 8-inch central touchscreen running new infotainment software, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, and upgrades to its active safety technology and exterior design.

The larger 10.5-inch touchscreen was introduced to the Yaris and Yaris Cross in Japan in February 2026, but it has yet to be announced for Australia.

Japanese-sourced, Australian-market Yaris Crosses continue to use the older version of their hybrid system, which produces 85kW.

Sales Performance in Australia

Australian new-car sales data shows that the Yaris Cross is the second-best-selling city SUV, with 2456 examples sold by the end of March. It trails behind the Mazda CX-3, which has sold 3489 units and is now in its 11th year on sale, despite lacking hybrid technology.

The Toyota Yaris Cross outperforms the Kia Stonic (1437), the Hyundai Venue (1352), the Volkswagen T-Cross (267), and the Suzuki Fronx (132). The latter was affected by a stop-sale order due to a seatbelt failure identified during ANCAP crash-testing late last year.
