49 & Expecting: Mum’s Second Miracle After Fertility Fight

MAFS Stars Sheila and Tyson Announce Second Baby Via Egg Donor

Reality television couple Sheila and Tyson, known for their heartwarming journey on Big Miracles, have shared incredibly exciting news: they are expecting their second child. The beloved pair revealed their pregnancy on social media, confirming they have once again opted for an egg donor to conceive their new arrival. This announcement follows their deeply personal and open sharing of their fertility struggles on the show last year.

“Today, we have something so exciting to share… we are pregnant again,” the couple posted, radiating joy. “I am 17 weeks pregnant with baby number 2. We chose the donor path again, using the same donor as before. After Phoenix was born, we had three embryos remaining, and this pregnancy is one of them.”

Their first child, son Phoenix, was welcomed into the world nearly three years ago, conceived using a donor egg and Tyson’s sperm. Sheila, who is 49 and will be giving birth just before her 50th birthday, spoke candidly about the profound nature of their decision. “There is so much I want to share, and I will continue to open up as this journey unfolds,” she wrote. “This was not a light decision. It was one I sat with deeply. But when a woman knows her family is not complete, there is a quiet truth that lives in her body. I was not attached to the outcome, but I was devoted to the process. I needed to know, in my heart and soul, that I had followed it through.”

A Humbled First Trimester and a Message of Hope

Sheila described her first trimester as “humbling,” experiencing an “exhaustion unlike anything she had experienced before.” She expressed a desire not to “glamorise” having a baby at her age, but rather to demonstrate that “it’s never too late to honour the vision you hold of your life.”

“For so long, becoming a mother felt out of reach for me, and now I find myself here again,” she continued. “To the women quietly considering the donor path, I see you. I honour how big that decision feels. What I can say, from my own experience, is this. When Phoenix came into my life, every fear I had dissolved. What remained was love. I will share more about this in the months ahead.”

The couple revealed their second child is anticipated to arrive in mid-August.

Documenting the Path to Parenthood

Sheila and Tyson’s journey to parenthood was extensively documented on the program Big Miracles, offering viewers an intimate look at their determination to start a family. Having met later in life, the pair were resolute in their desire to have a child together, with Sheila being 46 and Tyson 47 at the time.

Initially, they explored IVF using eggs Sheila had previously frozen in her 30s. However, upon discovering these eggs were not viable, medical professionals advised them to consider using donor eggs from overseas. While Sheila initially grappled with the concept of her child not sharing her genetic material, she ultimately set aside her concerns to fulfil her dream of becoming a mother – a decision she has never regretted.

For those unfamiliar with the intricacies of IVF, the process extends beyond simply fertilising an egg. A woman’s body must also be meticulously prepared to sustain a pregnancy. This involves hormonal treatments to ensure the uterus is receptive to accepting a fertilised embryo. Sheila and Tyson have navigated this complex process once before and are now undertaking it again for their second child.

Their story highlights the many pathways to building a family and underscores the power of perseverance and love in overcoming significant challenges. The couple’s continued openness about their experiences offers invaluable support and inspiration to others on similar journeys.
