For over three decades, the dynamic duo of Glenn Robbins and Mick Molloy have shared a unique bond that has stood the test of time. With a friendship spanning 37 years, they have witnessed each other’s careers flourish in the entertainment industry. Now, their long-standing camaraderie is taking center stage in a new comedy venture titled Glenn & Mick’s Celebrity Intervention.
This show brings together Glenn and Mick, along with guest stars, to roast celebrities in a humorous and engaging manner. The first celebrity to be featured in the spotlight is former The Project host Carrie Bickmore.

The story of how Glenn and Mick found themselves in each other’s orbit began in 1989 when both were making their mark in the entertainment world. Glenn was performing on The Comedy Company, one of the most popular TV shows at the time, while Mick was starting his radio career on Fox FM’s breakfast program.

“I remember seeing this guy and thinking he was cool and funny and that we needed him writing for The Comedy Company,” Glenn, now 68, recalls. “We were both in the same building and The Comedy Company had just exploded,” adds Mick, 59. “It was all hands on deck, and I pretty much had P-plates on and was submitting scripts.”
“And what was your name in the credits?” Glenn asks.
“I was listed as Michael Molloy,” Mick replies.

Over the years, the pair have collaborated across various platforms, including radio and television. They worked together on the 2006 film BoyTown, where they played members of a boy band. Their on-screen chemistry also shone through when Mick appeared in Kath & Kim as Gary Poole, Kath’s ex-husband and Kim’s father.
Kel, portrayed by Glenn, was visibly upset when he discovered Gary wearing Kath’s kimono. “There was a scene where I was sitting at the breakfast table in the kimono, and Glenn and I had a half-hour discussion about how wide the gap on the kimono should be,” Mick remembers. “Should it be open an inch, which is just enough to disturb people, but not enough to change the rating (on the show)?”

Their enduring friendship and natural comedic timing have culminated in Glenn & Mick’s Celebrity Intervention, a show that features a lineup of celebrities being roasted by Mick and his guests. Glenn, on the other hand, offers a more gentle guiding presence, creating a dynamic akin to a good cop/bad cop scenario.
While the show isn’t live like The Front Bar, the AFL show co-hosted by Mick with Sam Pang and Andy Maher, it is filmed in front of a live audience. Mick says the experience gives him a “real buzz.” “You’ve got to really rise to the occasion, and it gives us a thrill to reignite our passion for that style of TV,” he explains.
Although AI may not be able to replicate the energy of live comedy, Mick jokes that comedians might be among the few professions that can withstand the test of time. “They can take out doctors, lawyers, and everyone else, but stupid comedians might just survive the purge,” he quips.
Both Glenn and Mick are optimistic about the reception of their new comedy roast. However, they understand the unpredictable nature of the television industry. “We’d love to do another series if the opportunity arises,” Mick says. “But, if not, we’ll go back to our relationship advice show…”
“Good call back,” Glenn says, relieved.
Glenn & Mick’s Celebrity Intervention premieres on Monday, April 20, at 7:30 PM on Channel Seven and 7Plus.
