Alejandro Garnacho’s Manchester United Exit Revealed

A New Chapter for Alejandro Garnacho

Alejandro Garnacho, the Chelsea winger, has reflected on his departure from Manchester United, admitting that the move was painful and something he now regrets. The Argentine left Old Trafford in the summer for a fee of £40 million after a series of conflicts with the club, particularly with former manager Ruben Amorim.

The tension between Garnacho and Amorim escalated following a clash in front of the Red Devils squad. Garnacho had expressed frustration over being used as a late substitute during United’s poor performance in the Europa League final against Tottenham in May. His brother, Roberto, further fueled the controversy by posting a critical message on social media about Amorim’s treatment of Alejandro.

In June, it was reported that Garnacho was among five United players given permission to delay their return to training while seeking new clubs. He was reportedly told by Amorim to move on, and he eventually did so.

Before leaving United, Garnacho posted a picture of himself wearing an Aston Villa shirt with Marcus Rashford’s name on it – a gesture that didn’t sit well with fans. However, he has since spoken out about his decision to leave, expressing no ill feelings towards the club after spending five years there.

When asked by Premier League Productions if he regretted how the move unfolded, Garnacho said: “Maybe yes, because I loved that club. They gave me the confidence from the start, from Spain, to bring me to the academy, then they bring me to the first team, so it was like four or five years, and amazing love from everyone, from the fans, the stadium, everything was really good.”

“It’s just sometimes you have to change for the good of your life or the next steps. I only have good memories of Man United.”

After a difficult start under Amorim, the Portuguese manager praised Garnacho’s efforts to earn a place back in the team, despite there being no natural fit in his back-three system. The winger adapted to a No.10 role but eventually fell down the pecking order again.

Garnacho admitted that this was a key reason for his departure, acknowledging that he made some questionable decisions when he was out of the team.

“I remember in the last six months I was just not playing like before at Manchester United,” he said. “I started to be on the bench, it’s not a bad thing, I was only 20 years old, but in my mind it was like I had to play every game.”

“In my mind, maybe it is also on me, I started to do some bad things. But yes, it was just this moment in life and sometimes you have to make decisions and I am really proud to be here and still in the Premier League at a club like this.”

“Everyone knows the team we have and the things we can do. Sometimes, we have better moments or worse moments, I am proud to be here but with United, I have nothing wrong to say about the club, no one in the club or the team-mates. It’s just a moment in life that changes and life continues. I have no regrets.”

This season, Garnacho has played 37 games across all competitions, scoring eight goals. Nine of those appearances came in the Champions League.

Despite a challenging start, Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has been supportive of his young star. In March, he praised Garnacho’s development and potential.

“Garna is a top player,” Rosenior said. “I’ve changed a little bit tactically since I’ve come in; I’ve wanted to dominate midfield areas. That has meant at times I’ve only played with one winger, but Garna is an outstanding player.”

“What I’ve really liked in this period is his reaction to not starting. He’s been training very well and showed real positivity when he came on against Arsenal. He was also magnificent against Hull in the FA Cup and had a huge impact in the game against Arsenal when he scored two goals.”

“We have got to take into account that Garna is 21 – he’s got huge ability and huge potential. For any young player, the biggest thing to be challenged is your consistency level, but he’s showing really good signs, not just in training but in meetings, that he’s on a really good track. He’s definitely going to get his opportunities to play with the schedule we’ve got coming up.”
