Andrew Garfield has addressed the ongoing rumors about a potential return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in the upcoming Spider-Man sequel, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The 42-year-old actor previously portrayed Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014). He later joined forces with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in the 2021 crossover film Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Speculation has been growing that Garfield might once again team up with Holland in Brand New Day, which is set to be released in July. During an appearance on Capital FM’s Breakfast Show, Garfield was shown a still from the film’s trailer, featuring Holland’s Spider-Man leaping at a group of enemies. Fans have theorized that the large empty space beneath Holland’s character could eventually be filled with other versions of Spider-Man. Marvel Studios has a history of editing trailers to hide surprise appearances, so this speculation has gained traction.
Garfield dismissed the idea as “a bit of a reach, to be honest.” He explained, “Like, what do you mean there’s room for other characters? It’s literally just space underneath Spider-Man.” However, he added, “There’s room for more characters in every frame of the film, probably.”
When asked further about the possibility, Garfield downplayed the suggestion but also refused to confirm whether he would appear in the movie. “This is absolutely ludicrous, conspiracy-theory-level attempt at investigative journalism,” he joked. “You notice that I didn’t say I’m not in it, though.”
Although Garfield’s involvement has not been officially confirmed, the Brand New Day trailer gave fans a glimpse of several returning characters. This includes Zendaya’s “MJ” Jones-Watson and Jacob Batalon’s Ned Leeds. The film will follow the events of No Way Home, in which everyone in the world had Peter Parker’s secret identity erased from memory.
Mark Ruffalo will reprise his role as Bruce Banner, also known as the Hulk, while Jon Bernthal will return as Frank Castle, aka the Punisher. Bernthal previously played the character in his own TV series. Sadie Sink, best known for her role in Stranger Things, is also set to appear in the film. She is rumored to play a character linked to X-Men’s Jean Grey.

The film promises to bring together multiple iterations of Spider-Man, creating a unique blend of past and present. While details remain under wraps, the anticipation around Brand New Day continues to grow. Fans are eager to see how the story will unfold and whether previous actors like Garfield and Tobey Maguire will make a return. As the release date approaches, more information is expected to emerge, keeping the excitement alive for Marvel enthusiasts worldwide.
