A New Chapter in the Schwarzenegger Legacy
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s legacy extends beyond his iconic film roles and political career. It now includes a new generation of bodybuilders, with his son Joseph Baena stepping into the spotlight as a professional competitor. The 28-year-old has recently made waves in the bodybuilding world, following in his father’s footsteps with remarkable success.
Baena’s journey began last weekend when he won his first competition in Denver, Colorado. Just seven days later, he secured another major victory in California by claiming the INBA Iron Gladiator Classic Physique title. This achievement marks a significant milestone in his career, officially granting him pro status in the sport.
The young athlete celebrated his win on Instagram, where he was seen posing on stage with a sword and shield, a quirky choice that captured the attention of fans and media alike. His friends documented the moment as he flexed his well-defined muscles, showcasing the hard work and dedication that have led to this breakthrough.
This recent triumph comes just a week after Baena claimed three titles in Colorado. These included the Men’s Open Bodybuilding Heavy Weight Class, Men’s Classic Physique True Novice, and Men’s Classic Physique Novice. Each victory further solidifies his position as a rising star in the bodybuilding community.
Training with a Legend
Baena has been training alongside his father, Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is now 78 years old. The former Governor of California has been seen helping his son perfect one of the signature moves from his own competitive days. Their workouts at Gold’s Gym in Venice Beach highlight the strong bond between father and son, as well as the influence Arnold has had on Joseph’s career.

A Family History of Strength
Schwarzenegger’s career as a competitive bodybuilder was nothing short of legendary. He won seven Mr. Olympia titles before transitioning to Hollywood stardom and eventually entering politics. Now, his son is following a similar path, although their relationship has not always been straightforward.
Out of all five of Schwarzenegger’s children, Joseph has followed in his father’s footsteps the most. However, he primarily grew up with his mother, Mildred “Patty” Baena, in Bakersfield, California. Their relationship took a dramatic turn in 2011 when Arnold revealed he had secretly fathered Joseph during a “one-night stand” with his former housekeeper, which ended his 25-year marriage to journalist Maria Shriver. The couple’s divorce was finalized in 2021.

A Bond Built on Fitness
Joseph and Arnold first bonded over fitness, with the actor gifting his son a copy of The Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding, which he co-authored in 1985. This gesture marked the beginning of a mentorship that continues to shape Joseph’s approach to the sport.
“My dad is old-school; he doesn’t believe in handouts. He believes hard work pays off, and so do I,” Baena told Men’s Health in 2022. “I love the word honour, and I’m very prideful in the sense that if I use my dad’s contacts or ask him for favours, I wonder what honour is that gonna bring me?”
A Growing Legacy
Arnold Schwarzenegger has five children: Katherine, Christina, Patrick, and Christopher with his ex-wife Maria Shriver, and Joseph with Mildred. As Joseph continues to make his mark in the world of bodybuilding, it is clear that the Schwarzenegger name carries a legacy of strength, discipline, and determination.
