Arsenal have had little time to recover as they prepare for their crucial match against Sporting CP in the Champions League. The Gunners have already made the journey to Portugal for the opening leg of their quarter-final tie, following their recent defeat in the FA Cup against Championship side Southampton. This comes just a fortnight after their loss in the Carabao Cup final to Manchester City, which has effectively ended their hopes of securing a quadruple.
With this setback, Arsenal’s focus now lies solely on the Premier League and the Champions League. Although they currently hold a nine-point lead over City, who still have a game in hand, the recent disappointments have raised concerns among fans about the possibility of another late-season collapse. For manager Mikel Arteta, a season without any silverware would be a major blow, given the team’s strong position throughout the campaign.
Latest Updates on Arsenal
Here are the latest developments surrounding the club:
Financial Boost from Marseille Manager’s Handling of Ethan Nwaneri
Arsenal are set to benefit financially due to the actions of the Marseille manager regarding Ethan Nwaneri. Details of this situation remain unclear, but it is expected to result in a positive financial outcome for the club.
Strong Starting XI for Sporting CP Clash
The Gunners have received a triple injury boost ahead of their clash with Sporting CP. This means that the team can field their strongest possible starting XI for the match.
Arteta’s Interest in Guardiola’s Favourite
Mikel Arteta has reportedly shown interest in a player who is also a favorite of Pep Guardiola. According to Spanish publication Sport, Al-Qadsiah FC, managed by Brendan Rodgers, made a significant effort to sign Barcelona star Dani Olmo with a £60m offer and an £8m-per-year deal.
The same report indicated that Arsenal were among those interested in Olmo, who has struggled to secure regular playing time under Hansi Flick. However, Olmo has reportedly turned down both offers, choosing instead to fight for his place in the Barca squad.
This isn’t the first time that the 27-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League, as he was previously of interest to Manchester City last summer. At that time, Olmo’s representative stated that his client wasn’t considering leaving the Nou Camp but added: “You never know what the future will bring.”
It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will renew their pursuit of Olmo this summer, which could lead to a major overhaul of the squad.

Martinelli Avoids Further Action
Gabriel Martinelli is expected to avoid additional disciplinary action despite pushing referee Sam Barrott during the defeat at Southampton, according to former PGMOL chief and referee Keith Hackett.
The Brazilian was fortunate to receive only a yellow card after the incident, which occurred in stoppage time as the Gunners were chasing an equaliser. When Barrott awarded a free-kick, Martinelli rushed to take it and shoved the official, who then issued a yellow card.
Ex-Premier League referee Mark Hasley believes Martinelli should have been sent off. However, Hackett has pointed out that both the FA and FIFA are generally reluctant to re-referee incidents and does not expect any further punishment for the player.

Hackett told Football Insider:
“Because the referee has issued a yellow card, it is unlikely that the disciplinary panel will review the decision. The FA, and FIFA in particular, want to avoid re-refereeing issues. In this situation, Barrott, who I think is outstanding, hasn’t applied the law. He didn’t bring the attention upon himself, but he’s duty-bound to set an example for players and young referees down below.
“I’d like the disciplinary panel to re-referee this one and suspend the player who laid his hands on the official. Some will say that it wasn’t violent, but that shouldn’t matter.”
