The Boys is set to introduce one of its most formidable Supes in its upcoming fifth and final season. As the superhero thriller prepares for its concluding chapter, fans can expect even more intense violence and destruction than ever before. While spin-off projects will continue to expand the universe, several key character arcs will reach their conclusion, including that of Ashley Barrett.
This final season could be particularly significant for Ashley, who was last seen injecting herself with Compound V in Season 4. The decision came as Homelander and The Seven began targeting Vought employees, and she underwent a terrifying transformation, with her head swelling as she screamed in pain. Now, Colby Minifie, who portrays Ashley, has shared some insights into what lies ahead for her character.
Colby Minifie discusses Ashley Barrett’s powers in season 5
In the final moments of Season 4, Ashley injects herself with Compound V in a desperate attempt to survive. This moment marks a pivotal point in her journey, as it could determine whether she aligns with The Boys or remains with the Supes. Over the past four seasons, Ashley has been depicted as someone overwhelmed by the power of the Supes and horrified by their actions. While her moral stance has often been ambiguous, the final season will reveal which path she ultimately chooses.
Minifie revealed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight that Ashley’s powers are perfectly suited for her. “I can say that her power is perfect for her. I don’t think they could have chosen anything better. I’m really grateful that she gets to have a superpower in the first place,” she said. She also mentioned that she had the opportunity to explore some exciting physical aspects of her role.
Despite not revealing too much about her role in the new season, Minifie had a lighthearted take on her appearance in earlier seasons. She joked about her character’s hairstyle in Season 1, comparing it to Lord Farquaad from the original Shrek. “The poor thing started with hair,” she told CBR’s Sean O’Connell. “With a Lord Farquaad haircut nonetheless.”
While Ashley’s straight-cut bangs resembled the infamous Shrek character, there is a clear distinction between their roles. Lord Farquaad wielded immense power, whereas Ashley has largely been used throughout the show. However, with the possibility of gaining her own powers, it remains to be seen what role she will play in the series moving forward.
