Tennis Superstar Aryna Sabalenka Celebrates Engagement and Prepares for Miami Open Defence
Fresh off a significant personal milestone, World No. 1 tennis player Aryna Sabalenka was recently spotted enjoying a glamorous evening in South Florida. The Belarusian athlete, who is gearing up to defend her title at the prestigious Miami Open, celebrated her recent engagement to long-time partner Georgios Frangulis at a chic Miami hotspot.
The celebrations kicked off earlier this month when Frangulis proposed to Sabalenka, presenting her with a dazzling diamond ring. The newly engaged couple wasted no time in showcasing their joy, with Sabalenka proudly displaying the sparkling gem at a star-studded event held at Gekko, a renowned Japanese-inspired steakhouse located in Miami’s vibrant Brickell neighbourhood.

The exclusive gathering saw Sabalenka mingling with a constellation of fellow professional tennis players. Among the notable attendees were American talents Frances Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz, alongside Italian star Matteo Berrettini and Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov. This high-profile event, co-hosted by nightlife entrepreneur David Grutman’s hospitality group and DraftKings, served as a fitting prelude to the week-long tournament. Gekko, owned by Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny and Grutman, is a well-known celebrity haunt, famous for its luxurious ambiance and a pricetag that matches, with a ribeye steak reportedly fetching $1200. The venue frequently attracts A-list personalities such as David Beckham and Lionel Messi.
The evening was further elevated by an impressive lineup of entertainment. Guests were treated to performances by global music icon Peggy Gou, singer Jencarlos Canela, and Jon George, a member of the acclaimed Australian alternative dance group Rüfüs Du Sol.
Sabalenka herself made a striking fashion statement at the event. She was photographed in a show-stopping tiger-print fur coat from luxury Italian designer Gucci, a piece rumoured to cost a substantial $48,000. She styled the oversized jacket as a dress, with a hint of a silver skirt peeking out from underneath, complemented by sheer Gucci tights, creating a look that was both fierce and fashionable.

Her fiancé, Georgios Frangulis, opted for a more understated yet equally stylish ensemble. The Brazilian entrepreneur kept his look casual but sophisticated, sporting a black Bottega Veneta Intrecciato leather jacket paired with black jeans, allowing his fiancée to shine.
The Road to “Yes”
The proposal itself was a picture-perfect moment. Frangulis orchestrated a romantic setting for the proposal, surrounding Sabalenka with an abundance of flowers and candles. The tennis star, clearly taken by surprise, was visibly emotional as her fiancé got down on one knee. Images captured the moment Sabalenka covered her face in astonishment before embracing Frangulis and admiring the magnificent engagement ring he presented.

Sabalenka shared a heartfelt clip of the proposal on Instagram, accompanied by the caption, “You & me forever,” adorned with an infinity emoji, a wedding ring, and a white heart. The post quickly garnered a flood of congratulatory messages from the tennis world and beyond, including well wishes from tennis legend Novak Djokovic and his wife Jelena, Hollywood actress Eiza González, and fellow tennis professional Ben Shelton.
Fans had been anticipating a significant step in Sabalenka and Frangulis’s relationship for some time. Speculation intensified following a subtle hint Sabalenka dropped during her victory speech at the Brisbane International tournament in Australia back in January. After securing the win, she thanked her team and then affectionately addressed her boyfriend, saying, “Thank you to my boyfriend. Hopefully soon I’ll call you somehow else, right?” The crowd responded with laughter, and Sabalenka playfully added, “I just put on extra pressure, right?” Frangulis, watching from the stands, was seen smiling and clearly appreciated the hint. This public declaration of intent appears to have paved the way for the romantic proposal that followed just a couple of months later.
Looking Ahead: Miami Open Defence
With her personal life blossoming, Sabalenka’s focus now shifts to her professional commitments. She is set to commence her title defence at the Miami Open on Friday. Her opening match in the round of 64 will be against the winner of the earlier fixture between American Ann Li and Australia’s Kimberly Birrell. Tennis enthusiasts worldwide will be watching to see if Sabalenka can add another prestigious trophy to her collection while balancing her newfound status as a fiancée.
