A 45-year-old administrative worker from Adelaide, South Australia, recently undertook a significant journey, both geographically and financially, for a cosmetic procedure. Jojo McGinniss invested approximately £10,000 and endured a 19-hour economy flight to Turkey for a deep plane facelift, neck lift, temple lift, 360 liposuction, and facial fat transfer. The decision, made after years of saving and research, aimed for a refreshed appearance rather than a drastic transformation.
Jojo began noticing subtle changes in her facial features and neck as she entered her 40s. This prompted her to explore various cosmetic surgery options. While she had previously undergone a breast augmentation and an upper blepharoplasty in Australia, this time she turned her attention to overseas clinics, specifically in Turkey, citing both cost-effectiveness and perceived quality as driving factors.
“My biggest concern was my neck,” Jojo stated, highlighting the area she felt most needed attention. Despite well-meaning advice from friends and family suggesting she was still young and beautiful as she was, Jojo was resolute in her decision. Her partner, Dave Pettman, 53, initially expressed concerns about her losing her natural appearance, but Jojo’s primary goal was simply to look and feel more revitalised.

In February 2026, Jojo travelled to Istanbul, Turkey, accompanied by her partner. The chosen clinic and surgeon were identified through online research. The procedure itself was described as an “eight-hour mammoth surgery,” a significant undertaking that involved multiple cosmetic interventions simultaneously.
Following the surgery, Jojo experienced the expected post-operative effects, including substantial swelling and bruising across her face. She was required to wear compression bandages and undergo daily lymphatic massages. Additionally, body drains were placed in her stomach, back, and neck to aid in recovery. The total cost for the surgery amounted to £8,233, with an additional £2,231 spent on flights for both Jojo and Dave.

A month after the procedure, Jojo’s swelling had significantly subsided, revealing the results of the surgery. While the majority of the swelling had dissipated, Jojo found herself facing a barrage of critical comments from online trolls. These individuals suggested she should “sue the surgeon” and claimed she now looked “years older” or “exactly the same.”
Despite the negativity, Jojo expressed her profound satisfaction with the outcome. She described herself as “thrilled” with her rejuvenated look and the improved appearance of her neck. She stated that the extensive travel and financial investment were entirely worthwhile.
“People say I look years older – or that I look exactly the same, but I have thick skin. It’s water off a duck’s back to me,” Jojo remarked, demonstrating resilience against the harsh online commentary. She questioned the motivations behind such negativity, commenting, “I don’t know why people put others down like that, just sat behind a keyboard.” She further elaborated that some had deemed the surgery a “waste of money,” but for her, the desire to “look and feel snatched” was paramount, and she would not hesitate to repeat the experience.

The scars from the surgery, located around the edges of Jojo’s face, have healed remarkably well and are now almost invisible. Jojo conveyed her immense happiness with the results, emphasising that she still recognisable as herself.
“I’m so happy, and I still look like me – I just look and feel refreshed,” she shared. She addressed the common misconception that individuals undergoing such procedures aim for a complete overhaul, reiterating her own desire for subtle enhancement.
