‘Auto-Tune Overload’: North West Confuses Fans with ‘Piercings on My Hands’ Performance in LA

Kanye West’s daughter, North West, stole the spotlight at his first concert in Los Angeles in five years. The 12-year-old made her debut solo performance with the track “Piercings on My Hands” during the sold-out event at SoFi Stadium on Wednesday, April 1.

North, the daughter of the rapper, 48, and Kim Kardashian, 45, looked like a rockstar with two waist-length neon blue ponytails, oversized black sunglasses, and a chunky silver skull chain. The “Heartless” artist was on stage with her, hyping up the crowd as his firstborn child rapped, “I want more piercings and tats, I love blue hair.”

Fans had mixed reactions to North West’s performance. Some expressed disappointment, saying, “So much auto-tune. Lots of literal smoke and mirrors,” while another wrote, “I don’t ever feel her beat or music 😭 I’m sorry lol.” A third fan commented, “Baby go back to class 🥴. Maybe she can’t hear herself or something. Teyana [Taylor] come help your niece.”

However, others were supportive of the family moment, writing, “Special moment on stage. Father-daughter vibes hit different.” A second fan added, “Family over everything ❤️❤️.”

Kanye’s show lasted two hours and also featured fellow rapper Don Toliver as a special guest, according to the Los Angeles Times. Ye began by performing songs from his new album, “Bully,” which was released on March 28, before going into his classic hits toward the end of the show.

The show seemed to face some technical difficulties when the Chicago native performed his 2007 song “Good Life.” He had to restart the track several times due to “corny” lights. “Is this like an SNL skit or something?” Kanye asked the audience before telling the crew, “Stop doing the vibrating, Vegas lights, bro.”

This event marked Kanye’s first Los Angeles show since he apologized for his erratic behavior in an open letter published in The Wall Street Journal. The “Runaway” singer explained that his struggles with mental health stemmed from a brain injury that went “unnoticed” for years, causing him to “lose touch with reality.”

“Bipolar disorder comes with its own defense system. Denial. When you’re manic, you don’t think you’re sick. You think everyone else is overreacting,” he wrote. “You feel like you’re seeing the world more clearly than ever, when in reality you’re losing your grip entirely.”

Kanye has been open about his mental health challenges in recent years, and this performance marked a significant moment in his career. His daughter’s appearance on stage highlighted the strong bond between father and daughter, even as fans debated the quality of the performance.

The event was a mix of high energy, personal moments, and technical hiccups, but it remained a memorable night for those in attendance. As Kanye continues to navigate his career and personal life, the support from his family remains a key element in his journey.
