Beckham Family Feud: David’s Past Echoes in Rift with Son Brooklyn
A deep-seated family rift between global football icon David Beckham and his eldest son, Brooklyn, is reportedly causing David to relive painful memories of his own past estrangement from his father. Sources close to the family suggest that relatives are quietly working to prevent the current conflict from mirroring the years-long distance that once existed between David and his own father, Ted.
The public dispute, which has intensified this year, involves David, 50, and Brooklyn, 26. Brooklyn, now an aspiring chef and social media personality residing in the United States with his wife, Nicola Peltz, 31, publicly accused his parents – David and fashion designer Victoria, 51 – of manipulating narratives about their family and negatively impacting his marriage. This accusation was reportedly made in a lengthy statement shared on Instagram.
Despite public birthday acknowledgments and apparent efforts at reconciliation from David and Victoria, Brooklyn has remained publicly silent and estranged from his parents and siblings, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper.
Ted Beckham’s Painful Parallels
The current family tension has reportedly stirred up difficult memories for David, recalling his own prolonged estrangement from his father, Ted, 78. Insiders reveal that the parallels between the two situations are striking for Ted.
“For Ted, the current situation is incredibly difficult to watch because it brings back memories of the years when he and David were barely speaking,” a source close to the family confided. “He recognizes the same kind of distance and tension that once existed between them, and it reminds him just how painful that period was.” These memories are reportedly filled with regret over the lost time.
Lessons Learned from Past Distance
The source elaborated on the profound impact of this past estrangement: “Ted vividly and painfully recalls the birthdays that passed without contact, the family gatherings that never happened, and the long stretches where communication completely broke down. Seeing something similar unfold between David and Brooklyn has stirred up those emotions again, because he knows firsthand how devastating it can be for a father and son to drift so far apart.”

Driven by these painful recollections, Ted is said to be determined not to lose his relationship with his grandson, Brooklyn, despite the wider family feud. “Ted knows firsthand how devastating it can be when communication between family members breaks down. He remembers the emotional strain of feeling shut out of David’s life for years, and it is something that has stayed with him ever since.”
This past experience has significantly shaped Ted’s approach to the current family rift. “Because of that experience, he is making a conscious effort to keep the door open with Brooklyn no matter what is happening elsewhere in the family,” the insider explained.
Nurturing Bonds Amidst Conflict
Ted is reportedly committed to avoiding a repeat of history. “Ted does not want history repeating itself, so he has been careful to nurture that bond and stay in touch with his grandson even while tensions continue between Brooklyn and his parents.”

Brooklyn is understood to have maintained contact with his grandparents, Ted and Hilary Beckham, and has intentionally kept them out of the dispute with his parents. One source described Brooklyn as having a “tender spot” for his grandfather.
Last year, Brooklyn publicly acknowledged his grandfather on social media, sharing a photograph of them together with the caption: “Happy birthday grandad. I love you xx.” Earlier this week, Ted and Hilary reciprocated with their own birthday message for Brooklyn, posting photos of him and Nicola Peltz and writing: “Happy birthday Brooklyn. Hope you have a fabulous day. With love from Grandad and Hilary.”
Friends of the family indicate that Brooklyn has endeavoured to make it clear that his anger towards his parents does not extend to his grandparents.
David’s Own Difficult History with Ted
David Beckham’s own challenging history with his father, Ted, dates back to the early 2000s. The pair experienced a significant estrangement for several years, stemming from family tensions and the publication of an unauthorized biography titled David Beckham: My Son. This breakdown was further compounded by the divorce of David’s parents, Ted and Sandra Beckham, after 33 years of marriage.

David has previously spoken candidly about the complicated dynamic he shared with his father during his upbringing. In an appearance on James Corden’s podcast “This Life of Mine” in 2024, Beckham revealed that his father rarely offered praise for his football achievements. He recounted, “My dad never told me I’d done well really until my hundredth cap. That was the first time my dad turned around to me and said, ‘You’ve made it boy.'”
The reconciliation between David and Ted only occurred after a near-fatal heart attack suffered by Ted in 2007. Paramedics worked for hours to save his life, prompting David to fly home from the United States, where he had recently joined L.A. Galaxy. This critical medical emergency ultimately served as the catalyst for the father and son to repair their fractured relationship.
