Legal Battles Loom: The Shadow of Past Collaborations
This otherwise idyllic trip takes place just two months before Blake Lively is scheduled to face a trial in New York City concerning a lawsuit she filed in December 2024. In her legal action, Lively accused actor Justin Hartley of sexual harassment and orchestrating a smear campaign against her. The pair had previously collaborated on the 2024 film “It Ends With Us,” which Hartley also directed.
In response, Justin Hartley initiated a counter-lawsuit, seeking $400 million from the actress, and also filed a $250 million libel claim against The New York Times for its reporting on Lively’s allegations. This particular claim was subsequently dismissed by a judge in June of last year.
Last month, in February, both Blake Lively and Justin Hartley attended a settlement hearing in New York City. However, the actress abruptly departed after six hours of negotiations, accompanied by her lawyer, Michael Gottleb. Shortly thereafter, Justin Hartley exited the courthouse, supported by his wife. When questioned about the possibility of resuming settlement discussions, his attorney, Bryan Freedman, offered a non-committal response, stating, “I don’t know that he will.” A prior settlement conference had been scheduled for January 22, but neither Blake nor Justin attended that session.
