‘Blue Bloods’ Actor Alex Duong Dies at 42

Alex Duong, a familiar face from television shows like “Blue Bloods” and “Pretty Little Liars,” passed away on March 28 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 42 years old. The news was shared with profound sadness via an update on a GoFundMe page established to support Duong and his family following his diagnosis. The update conveyed that Duong died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones and friends, and that he was comfortable and free from pain.

His wife, Christina, and their 5-year-old daughter, Everest, were by his side during his final moments. The GoFundMe update poignanty noted that Duong was “alert enough to say goodbye to his little girl, whom he has treasured every moment since the day she was born.”

The preceding day, March 27, Hilarie Steele, the organizer of the GoFundMe page, had reported that Duong had entered septic shock due to a severe and life-threatening infection that had overwhelmed his body. He was hospitalized in critical condition at that time. This critical turn of events followed Duong’s admission to the hospital on March 12 for another round of chemotherapy. Steele had described Duong as “incredibly weak,” and that the cancer in his spine was taking a significant toll on his body, leaving him with difficulty walking.

Understanding Alex Duong’s Diagnosis

In 2025, Duong had shared details about his diagnosis with the Los Angeles Times. He revealed he was suffering from alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of soft tissue cancer. According to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, this type of cancer typically affects adolescents and young adults. Duong’s specific case involved a malignant growth situated behind his eye, which was reportedly blocking blood flow to his optic nerve.

The American Cancer Society explains that rhabdomyosarcoma is the most common soft tissue sarcoma found in children and adolescents. It originates from cells that are destined to develop into skeletal muscles – the muscles responsible for voluntary movement.

The Onset of Symptoms

Prior to his official diagnosis, Duong had experienced persistent headaches behind his eyes. The severity of his condition became apparent one evening while he was working the door at The Comedy Store. His manager noticed that his left eye appeared to be “about to fall out,” prompting him to advise Duong to go home. This stark observation underscored the aggressive nature of the disease and the urgency of seeking medical attention.

A Notable Career in Entertainment

The Texas native amassed an impressive resume with 40 acting credits listed on IMDb. Audiences will remember him for his roles in popular television series. Beyond his appearances on the CBS police drama “Blue Bloods,” starring Donnie Wahlberg and Tom Selleck, Duong also featured in the teen drama “Pretty Little Liars.” His acting portfolio also includes roles in “Dexter” and “Everybody Hates Chris,” among other productions.
