Bordeaux Begles Dominates Leicester in a Record-Breaking Performance
In an impressive display of rugby prowess, Bordeaux Begles delivered a stunning 64-14 victory over Leicester in the Investec Champions Cup. The match, held at Stade Chaban Delmas, saw the French side score nine tries, with Salesi Rayasi leading the way by scoring a hat-trick.
The first half was dominated by Bordeaux, who quickly took control of the game. Maxime Lucu opened the scoring with a penalty in the sixth minute, and just 14 minutes later, Cameron Woki powered over for the first try, making it 10-0. From that point on, the floodgates were open, and Bordeaux ran in four tries within a span of 12 minutes before halftime.
Salesi Rayasi was instrumental in this onslaught, scoring one of the tries, followed by Maxime Lucu, Louis Bielle-Biarrey, and Maxime Lamothe. This run of tries left the Tigers trailing 36-0 at the break.
Leicester managed to get on the board three minutes into the second half when Izaia Perese scored after a defensive error. However, Ben Tameifuna quickly restored the hosts’ lead, showcasing his strength and determination to maintain the 36-point advantage.

Despite showing great spirit in the second half, Leicester could only manage one more try. Substitute Billy Searle scored a simple try, but it was not enough to change the outcome of the match. Bordeaux continued their dominance, scoring three more tries, with Salesi Rayasi completing his hat-trick and Arthur Retiere adding another. This performance secured a convincing 50-point victory and a spot in the quarter-finals.
Bordeaux will now face fellow Top 14 side Toulouse in what promises to be a thrilling encounter between two French powerhouses.

Leinster also advanced to the quarter-finals with a thrilling 49-31 victory over Edinburgh in a high-scoring 12-try affair. The match started with Leinster taking an early lead, scoring twice in the first six minutes thanks to tries from Tommy O’Brien. Edinburgh responded with two of their own, with Charlie Shiel and Ross Thompson both crossing the line to narrow the deficit to two points.
Leinster quickly regained their momentum, scoring their third try through Jimmy O’Brien. Edinburgh refused to back down, and they added their third try through Ross Thompson’s second score of the afternoon. Both teams continued to trade tries in an electrifying first half, with Hugo Keenan extending Leinster’s lead and Matt Currie reducing it again.

Edinburgh took the lead for the first time in the game 11 minutes into the second half, thanks to a moment of brilliance from Darcy Graham. He dinked the ball over the top and outpaced Jamison Gibson-Park to score. However, Leinster quickly responded, with Josh van der Flier and Thomas Clarkson adding to their lead. Rieko Ioane capped off a chaotic afternoon with a try after a clever dummy move on Graham.
