Community Efforts Bring Joy to Children in Bradford
Thousands of Easter eggs have brought a sense of joy and celebration to children across the city during the school holidays. This year’s Easter Egg Appeal, organised by Community Appeals with support from the Bradford Bulls Community Foundation (BBFC), has seen an impressive 3,700 eggs delivered to children and families throughout Bradford.
Michelle Pemberton, a member of the BBFC and volunteer co-ordinator for Community Appeals, expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming generosity from the local community. She said: “The generosity from across Bradford has been incredible. Every donation helps us reach children who might otherwise go without, and that’s what this appeal is all about—simple acts of kindness making a real difference.”
Distribution Through Social Services and Charities
The eggs were distributed with the help of 21 social services teams and children’s charities, ensuring that they reached youngsters facing difficult circumstances during the Easter break. The initiative aimed to provide some comfort and joy to those who may not have had the opportunity to celebrate Easter in the usual way.
This year’s appeal received strong support from the wider community, including a matchday collection at Odsal Stadium where Bradford Bulls supporters donated Easter eggs in large numbers. This event highlighted the collective effort of the local community in supporting the cause.
Support from the Bradford Bulls Community Foundation
Shaun Flynn, foundation manager at the Bradford Bulls Community Foundation, praised the success of this year’s Easter Egg Appeal. He said: “This year’s Easter Egg Appeal has been truly amazing. The support we’ve been able to offer through the Bradford Bulls shows exactly what the Foundation stands for – making a positive difference for the people of Bradford.”
He added that seeing the community come together to support children and families who need it most is something the foundation is incredibly proud to be part of.
Additional Charitable Activities
In addition to the Easter Egg Appeal, the BBFC also carried out its own charitable visits to children in hospital. These efforts were separate from the main appeal but reflected the same spirit of care and community support.
Head coach Kurt Haggerty and Bulls players spent time with young patients, an activity described by organisers as a reflection of the “wider spirit of care and community across Bradford.” This gesture aimed to bring some light and positivity into the lives of children who are undergoing medical treatment.
Ensuring Donations Reach Those in Need
Eggs were distributed through trusted organisations to ensure that donations reached those most in need. This approach helped maintain the integrity of the appeal and ensured that every egg contributed had a meaningful impact on the recipients.
Organisers believe that the continued success of the appeal reflects the strength of community spirit in Bradford. It is a testament to the willingness of local residents to come together and support one another, especially during challenging times.
