Beyond the Broadcast: A Glimpse into Caitríona Perry’s Private World
Caitríona Perry has become a familiar and cherished face on our television screens for many years. While her on-air persona is well-known, it only offers a glimpse into the multifaceted individual behind the microphone. Much of Caitríona’s life away from the studio remains private, as she firmly believes in maintaining a clear distinction between her professional and personal spheres. However, here’s what we do know about this prominent broadcaster.
A Private Partnership
Caitríona Perry is happily married, though she chooses to keep details about her husband and his name out of the public spotlight. This decision stems from his profession, which is outside the media industry. She shared her philosophy with Irish Country Magazine, stating, “I feel like so much of our lives are shared now through social media that you have to keep something back for yourself. I think your work is your work and your home life is your home life, and you should be able to separate them.” This commitment to privacy allows her to nurture a personal life shielded from the constant scrutiny of her public career.
Expanding the Family
Caitríona and her husband are proud parents to two children: a daughter, born in 2019, and a son, welcomed in 2022. She announced the arrival of her daughter in July 2019 with a heartfelt message: “A new chapter begins! Thanks to all for the well wishes on the birth of my beautiful baby girl, and thanks to the midwives, doctors, and nurses for the excellent care.”
Upon her return to work after maternity leave, Caitríona reflected on the profound shift in her life. Speaking to the RTÉ Guide, she acknowledged the immense challenge of balancing motherhood with her demanding career: “Your life is just so different as a mum, it’s so hard to comprehend how you’ll marry the two.” She admitted that the overwhelming demands of caring for a newborn left little time to miss her work, though she remained committed to staying informed about global events.

“It’s funny, like any new mum will say, you’re very busy and your whole immediate focus on any given day is keeping another human alive,” she candidly shared at the time.

The news of her second pregnancy emerged in April 2022, after keen-eyed RTÉ viewers noticed what appeared to be a baby bump. She later publicly showcased her pregnancy glow on the red carpet at the 2022 VIP Style Awards. By September 2022, she joyfully confirmed the arrival of her son, announcing, “Some #goodnews. Delighted to announce the arrival of a beautiful baby boy. Thanks to the wonderful doctors and midwives for ensuring his safe arrival.”
A New Chapter in America

In 2023, Caitríona Perry and her family embarked on a significant relocation, moving to the United States. This move was prompted by her appointment as Washington correspondent for the BBC. She expressed her deep affection for the US and her desire to continue her work there: “I just love the US and when my term as Washington correspondent [for RTÉ] was up, I kind of felt like I had a little bit more that I wanted to do there and that I was due to stay on a little longer.”
The transition, while professionally exciting, carried an emotional weight. Caitríona confessed, “It’s bittersweet because people are excited for me and they know me and what I’m interested in and what’s exciting professionally for me. And then they have their own feelings of obviously going to miss me.” She particularly empathised with the grandparents back home, acknowledging the distance that separates families: “Particularly, I think for the grandparents, like so many grandparents in Ireland. To watch their grandkids grow up over Zoom from Canada, Australia, or wherever. And you know, the world is a small place, and we have all these technologies, but we can’t hug over Zoom.”
What She Cherishes About Home

During an appearance on The Late Late Show in March, Caitríona revealed an unexpected aspect of Ireland she misses. Beyond the obvious longing for friends and family, she spoke about the unique Irish tradition of communal grief: “You miss your friends and family, you miss going to funerals, the Irish people are very good at going to funerals. I don’t get to go to funerals.” She elaborated on the cultural differences surrounding funerals in the US, noting that the close-knit nature of Irish society often leads to attending the funerals of colleagues’ parents, a practice less common in America.
Beyond these deeply personal connections, Caitríona also misses the simple pleasures of home: “You miss good Irish beef, good vegetables… crisps, proper chocolate.” These everyday comforts highlight a yearning for the familiar tastes and textures of her homeland.
More Precious Time with the Children

Since her move to the United States, Caitríona has found she has more quality time to dedicate to her children compared to her previous role on the Six One News. She explained to RSVP magazine, “I wasn’t home until eight o’clock every single night, so when you have small kids, you’re missing every single dinner and bedtime. Now, I have different working hours, and a lot of the time I’m home for that.” This shift in her schedule has allowed her to be more present during crucial family moments.
Mum’s the Star!
When Caitríona isn’t physically present, her children find immense joy in watching their mother on television. The Dublin native shared that seeing her all dressed up for broadcasts is a source of excitement for them, a stark contrast to her more relaxed “mum mode” attire. “They can watch me on the TV, and they find that exciting. I’m wearing all the pretty dresses and the pretty shoes and all that, which is not what I look like when I’m at home,” she quipped. This playful observation underscores the delightful duality of her life, seamlessly transitioning between her professional persona and her role as a devoted mother.
