Cameron Diaz, known for her glamorous appearances on and off the screen, was seen in a completely different light during a recent filming session in New York City. The 53-year-old American actress was spotted on Saturday, capturing dramatic scenes with her co-star Stephen Merchant, who plays an unlikely lover in the upcoming film The Sham.
Diaz’s unique style was on full display as she filmed a scene where she appeared to chase Merchant down a street. Emerging from an apartment on set, she wore a quirky outfit that included a bulldog graphic print T-shirt styled as a dress, paired with vibrant, tight-fitting leggings. She layered a fluffy beige cardigan over her shoulders and completed the look with green Ugg boots. To add to her ensemble, she sported a white and black polka dot bandana headband and hoop earrings, while delivering an emotional performance for the scene.
Meanwhile, Stephen Merchant, who is well-known for his work on The Office in the UK, cut a smart figure in a burgundy blazer paired with a navy waistcoat and grey trousers as he walked ahead of Diaz along the sidewalk. Later in the day, Diaz changed into a cream knit hoodie and grey jeans as she relaxed on a set of stairs, reading her lines. She later switched into a burgundy top and the same beige cardigan while filming a scene in which she took out the trash from her apartment.
Diaz was in great spirits throughout the day, pausing to chat with members of the production team. For her final look of the day, she looked stylish in a red blazer paired with a white graphic T-shirt and light-blue denim jeans as she left what appeared to be a comedy club.
A Unique Storyline in The Sham
According to Deadline, The Sham follows Stephen Merchant as a British hotel worker employed at an upscale New York hotel who desperately needs a wife to maintain public appearances. He then joins forces with a struggling comedian, played by Cameron Diaz, who needs cash to fund her health insurance. While their fake marriage begins as a business transaction, it soon turns into an unexpected romance.
Last week, Diaz shared the news of her collaboration with Merchant on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. She praised her co-star, saying, “I’m doing a movie with Stephen Merchant, so great, gosh he is the best. I’m doing a film here with him. I don’t know the name of it yet.” Merchant echoed the sentiment by sharing a clip on his TikTok, writing, “Thanks so much for the love @Jimmy Fallon and @Cameron Diaz. Having a great time making this movie in glorious NYC, can’t wait to share it.”
Cameron Diaz’s Future Projects
After taking a break from Hollywood in 2014 following the film Annie, Diaz made a return last year in Back in Action alongside Jamie Foxx. She is also set to star in several upcoming projects.
One of her next movies is Shrek 5, scheduled for release in 2027. The film will see Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Diaz reprising their roles as Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona, respectively, while Zendaya joins the cast as Shrek and Fiona’s daughter, Felicia.
Diaz will also appear in Reenactment alongside Benicio del Toro. Although plot details remain under wraps, reports suggest the film will soon enter production in Los Angeles. Bad Day centers on a single mother fighting to keep one small promise to her daughter on the worst day of her life. The film has been described as a comedic version of Joel Schumacher’s 1993 film Falling Down, in which Michael Douglas plays a man reaching his breaking point while trying to reach his daughter’s birthday party.
