Carpet Ripped, Fortune Found: Bargain Hunter’s Jackpot

Bargain Hunt Star Unearths Hidden Gem Beneath Home Carpet

A familiar face from the beloved British television show Bargain Hunt has shared an astonishing discovery made right in his own home. Auctioneer and television personality Charles Hanson, known for his appearances on Antiques Road Trip and Flog It! as well, revealed he “hit the jackpot” after deciding to rip up the carpet in his house.

The 47-year-old took to TikTok to give his followers a peek into his domestic life, showcasing an unexpected find that left him buzzing with excitement. In a video clip, Hanson explained his late-night endeavours. “Ripped my carpet up and you won’t believe what I found,” he captioned the post, admitting with a touch of humour, “Yes, I know, wrong tool, but I was excited.”

He elaborated on the process, stating, “I’ve had a very late night tonight. I’ve been busy with my screwdriver, and look at this.” Hanson then revealed the layers beneath the old flooring. “Old carpet. Underneath I’ve been revealing some of the original tiles which graced my house probably 140 years ago, but just look at what I’m revealing.”

The BBC star, clearly delighted with his progress, continued to express his amazement. “It’s wonderful. Just look at this – at what I’ve done so far. It’s a revelation.” The unearthed tiles, believed to be original to the property and dating back approximately 140 years, were met with widespread admiration from his social media followers.

The comments section of his post quickly filled with enthusiastic responses. One user quipped, “That’s a night on the tiles to remember.” Another expressed their sheer delight, writing, “I would weep with joy. How beautiful.” A third follower offered practical encouragement, remarking, “The tiles will buff up perfectly! Great find.” The sentiment was echoed by many, with one person simply stating, “Very beautiful.”

A Bargain Hunt Contestant’s Journey Behind the Scenes

Beyond personal home renovations, the enduring appeal of Bargain Hunt continues to draw in new participants. Recently, a young woman who featured on the iconic show has lifted the lid on her experience, offering insights into what it’s like to be a contestant and work alongside the show’s seasoned experts.

Bargain Hunt, which first graced television screens in the year 2000, has since broadcast an impressive tally of over 1,800 episodes spread across a remarkable 71 series. This extensive run means a vast number of individuals have had the opportunity to participate in the treasure-hunting challenge.

One such participant was Alicia Humphreys, who appeared on the show in 2019 with her father-in-law. The pair, representing the red team, featured in the 26th episode of series 53, with the filming taking place in Grantham.

Speaking with the Express, Alicia explained the motivation behind their application. “I was working my way through a list of things I wanted to do before I turned 30 and going on TV was on that list,” she revealed. “I was talking to my father-in-law about it, and after some discussion, we decided to apply for Bargain Hunt together as a laugh.”

Their episode was helmed by presenter Charlie Ross, with experts Gary Pe and Nick Hall providing guidance. A synopsis for the episode on BBC iPlayer reads: “Today’s reds and blues are bargain hunting in Grantham with the help of experts Nick Hall and Gary Pe. Presenter Charlie Ross finds out about four eras of English furniture with auctioneer and expert Colin Young.”

Reflecting on her interactions with the show’s personalities, Alicia shared her positive experience working with the experts. “They were hilarious, friendly, and so nice to be around!” she enthused. “We had Gary Pe, and we had the best time with him.”
