Chappell Roan’s Reputation Takes a Hit Amidst Growing Controversies
Chappell Roan, the 28-year-old pop sensation, has found herself under increasing scrutiny, with whispers from Hollywood insiders labelling her as ‘the most difficult’ celebrity due to a string of public spats and alleged diva-like behaviour. This latest wave of controversy centres around an incident in São Paulo, Brazil, where one of her security guards was accused of making an 11-year-old girl cry.
The alleged victim, Ada Law, daughter of actor Jude Law, was reportedly left distressed after an interaction with Roan’s security team at the hotel where both parties were staying. Ada was with her mother, Catherine Harding, and her stepfather, Brazilian football star Jorginho Frello.
Roan’s representatives have vehemently denied any knowledge of the incident, stating, “She did not direct her personal security or anyone on her team to interact with them.” However, a source close to the singer told the Daily Mail that some of her associates believe she needs to change her approach.
“Her attitude isn’t the best. Some would call it being a diva, others would just call it being a [expletive],” the source commented. “It’s a shame, because she is incredibly talented, and for her to ruin what she has made for herself would be such a disappointment. [Those close to her] are hoping that she’ll actually take this as a learning lesson and be nicer in the future.”

A Pattern of Confrontational Encounters
This isn’t the first time the Missouri-born artist has been embroiled in public altercations. Her rise to fame, particularly following the success of her album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, has been punctuated by several notable clashes.
At the MTV VMAs in September 2024, Roan had a public confrontation with a photographer. When the photographer was overheard shouting, Roan retorted sharply, “You shut the [expletive] up! No. Not me, [expletive]!”
Just a month later, at the Los Angeles premiere of Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts World Tour movie, Roan approached another photographer, accusing him of past mistreatment. She reportedly said, “You were so disrespectful to me at the Grammys. You yelled at me at a Grammy party. You were so rude to me… You need to apologize to me.”

Viral Videos Amplify Criticism
These incidents, often captured on video and circulating widely online, have fuelled criticism of Roan’s interactions with both fans and the paparazzi. She has frequently been seen calling out individuals for what she perceives as “harassment” or “stalking.”
The ongoing commentary has even prompted veteran singer Boy George to publicly address Roan. In a message shared earlier this month, he advised her to “cheer up girl” and to “Own your fame. The world is at your feet stop kicking it!”
The recent accusation from Jorginho Frello on Instagram detailed how his stepdaughter Ada was left “extremely shaken” after the singer’s bodyguard allegedly confronted her and her mother. The incident occurred after Ada had walked past Roan’s breakfast table at the hotel.
The bodyguard in question has since been identified as Pascal Duvier, the same security aide who was with Kim Kardashian when she was famously robbed in Paris in 2016.
Despite the backlash, Roan released a video insisting she had no prior knowledge of her staff approaching the child. However, for some, this explanation has not been enough to quell their concerns.

Insider Concerns About a Developing Persona
An insider suggested that Roan’s past behaviours are now catching up with her. “We all know the saying, fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. And that is where we are with Chappell. Many have been fooled by her past behaviour,” they stated.
The source continued, “Her problem now is that someone actually called her on her [expletive], called her out on the behaviour she has gotten away with for so long. It would be best for her to take responsibility instead of digging more of a hole for herself. She had that incident with the red-carpet photographer at the VMAs along with other photographer issues, in which she was in the wrong. She’s called out fans and now this security [guard] incident. It is a bad look.”

The Peril of a Controversial Public Image
The insider further warned that without another significant hit song, Roan’s career could falter. “Without another hit song, Roan could ‘be forgotten and nobody will care’,” they cautioned.
Reflecting on her public persona in a previous appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Roan herself admitted that she believes people are intimidated by her. “I think people are scared of me,” she mused. “I think I made a big enough deal about not talking to me that people do not talk to me.”
She described how her presence creates a “forcefield” around her and her friends, deterring people from approaching them. “I’m just like, ‘Damn, baby, you say it too.’ You say, ‘Don’t touch me, don’t look at me, don’t talk to me, I don’t know who you are…’ and they won’t come to bother you.” This self-awareness, however, has done little to mitigate the current wave of negative publicity.
