Security Guard Breaks Silence Amidst Chappell Roan Fan Controversy
A security guard, now at the centre of a heated online debate regarding an incident involving pop singer Chappell Roan and a young fan, has stepped forward to offer his account and apology. The event, which reportedly left an 11-year-old girl in tears, has sparked significant backlash against the artist.
The guard, identified as Pascal Duvier, was alleged to have “aggressively confronted” Ada and her mother, Catherine Harding, at a hotel in Brazil. The encounter allegedly occurred shortly after young Ada had walked past Chappell Roan’s table.
Duvier has since taken to Instagram to address the situation. He stated that while he takes full responsibility for his actions on March 21st, he was not a member of Chappell Roan’s personal security team at the time. “I do not normally address online rumours, but the accusations currently circulating are false and constitute defamation,” Duvier wrote. He clarified that he was present at the hotel on behalf of another individual and his interactions were not on behalf of Roan, her security, or her management.
“My sole interaction with the mother was calm and with good intentions, and the outcome of the encounter is regretful,” he added, expressing his regret for the way the situation unfolded.
The Incident Escalates Online
The controversy gained widespread attention after Ada’s stepfather, Brazilian soccer star Jorginho Frello, publicly criticised Chappell Roan on Instagram. Frello, whose biological daughter Ada’s father is the acclaimed actor Jude Law, expressed his distress over the incident.
“My daughter got super scared and cried a lot,” Frello wrote in a now-widely shared Instagram story. “Honestly, I don’t know in what world just passing by a table and looking … can be considered harassment.” He directly addressed Roan, stating, “Without your fans you would be nobody. And to the fans, she does not deserve your affection.”
This statement from Frello amplified the online outcry, with many fans feeling that Roan had mistreated a young admirer. Questions arose about whether Roan had intentionally directed her security to confront the child after she had simply passed by her table.
Chappell Roan Responds
In the wake of the global headlines and public furore, Chappell Roan, whose real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, released a video statement on her Instagram Stories. She echoed Duvier’s assertion that the security guard involved was not part of her personal security detail.
“I did not, [and] they did not come up to me. They weren’t doing anything,” Roan clarified. She explained that she did not instruct any security personnel to approach the girl, stating, “It’s unfair for security to just assume someone doesn’t have good intentions when they have no reason to believe because there’s no action even taken, like, that’s so not what I stand behind.”
The singer, known for her hit song “Pink Pony Club,” vehemently denied any animosity towards children. “I do not hate children, like that is crazy,” she stated emphatically.
Roan concluded her video message by extending an apology to Ada and her mother, Catherine Harding. She expressed her regret for the distress caused by the incident.
