A Troubled Season for Chelsea
The chant “We want our Chelsea back” echoed around Stamford Bridge as the club faced yet another setback, a moment that highlighted how far they have fallen from their former glory. The current situation is so dire that fans no longer recognize their own team. Once dominant and successful, Chelsea now struggle to score and defend, marking a stark contrast to their past achievements.
For the first time since 1998, Chelsea has endured four consecutive league losses without scoring a single goal. The last time they lost five in a row without scoring? That was 1912, the year the Titanic sank. Their next match against Brighton on Tuesday night will be crucial in determining whether they can turn their season around.
Manchester United, under the guidance of Michael Carrick, are a strong side, but the situation for Chelsea was made worse by the lack of defensive options. With injuries and suspensions, they had only one central defender, 19-year-old Ayden Heaven, in their starting line-up.
Liam Rosenior was given the chance to reverse the slump, but it seems like the team is sleepwalking towards a season without European football altogether. This would be a major embarrassment for a club that once proudly wore the title of champions of the world.
After the match, Rosenior showed his appreciation to the remaining fans by walking around the pitch. However, the reception he received was far from positive. Fans gave him boos and V-signs, clearly showing their frustration with the current state of the club.
The fanbase is fed up, and this was evident before the game when there was a protest against BlueCo ownership. Both Chelsea fans and Strasbourg supporters joined in, with one Metropolitan Police officer estimating around 500 attendees. The protest highlighted the growing discontent among the supporters.
Despite assurances from the club’s custodians about adjusting their recruitment strategy, the trust between the fans and the club has been broken. One chant at Stamford Bridge was particularly telling: “F*** off Eghbali.”
The game followed a familiar pattern. Chelsea created chances but failed to convert them, while conceding goals easily. Wesley Fofana was taken off after an injury, and the team struggled to maintain control. Manchester United, on the other hand, are on track for Champions League qualification, while Chelsea face an uncertain future.

In a televised interview before the match, Cole Palmer emphasized the importance of finishing in the top five. “If we’re not in the Champions League, a lot changes, everything changes,” he said. “We absolutely have to qualify for it.” His words highlight the pressure on the team to perform.
United arrived with a depleted defense, missing key players such as Lisandro Martinez, Matthijs De Ligt, Harry Maguire, and Leny Yoro. This left Michael Carrick with only Ayden Heaven as his senior center-back option.
Heaven, a 19-year-old who cost around £1.2 million from Arsenal, had only one clean sheet in his nine starts this season. Facing Liam Delap, who was playing his first Premier League game since January, Heaven adopted an aggressive approach.
The situation worsened for Chelsea when Joao Pedro tweaked his thigh, and Estevao Willian withdrew with a hamstring injury. This handed an opportunity to Alejandro Garnacho, who had not found form since joining Chelsea from United for £40 million last summer.

Chelsea wasted numerous chances, with Enzo Fernandez hitting the wall from a free-kick and curling wide. Delap had several opportunities but was denied by offside decisions. The opening goal came from a defensive error, with Sanchez clattering into Fofana, leading to a cross that found Cunha for the opener.
Fernandes, with 18 assists this season, is in contention for the Player of the Year award. In contrast, Palmer has only one assist this season and appears lost on the pitch. The entire team seems to be struggling, highlighting the need for a significant turnaround.
