While Chuck Norris was known for his robust health and often portrayed an invincible figure on screen, a recent report has shed light on a harrowing health ordeal he secretly endured. The legendary martial artist and actor allegedly suffered two severe heart attacks nearly nine years before his passing on Thursday, March 19, at the age of 86. This revelation paints a more complex picture of his final years, highlighting a significant health battle that was kept largely private.
The 2017 Health Crisis
The critical medical episode is reported to have occurred in July 2017. According to an insider speaking to a news outlet, the severity of the event was such that it “would have easily killed most men half his age.” This statement underscores the remarkable resilience Norris displayed in overcoming such a significant cardiac event.
The incident took place shortly after Norris had attended the United Fighting Arts Federation’s World Championships in Las Vegas. As his family embarked on a lengthy nine-hour drive back to their home in Chester, California, they made a stop at the Tonopah Station Hotel and Casino in Nevada.

A staff member at the hotel recounted the distressing moments to The National Enquirer, detailing how Norris was seen on the casino floor before retiring to his room. Tragically, around 5:30 a.m., he collapsed in the shower, experiencing intense chest pains.
A Perilous Journey to Medical Care
The nearest medical facility, Mt. Grant General Hospital in Hawthorne, Nevada, was a considerable 100 miles away. The journey to the hospital proved to be fraught with danger. During the ambulance ride, Norris reportedly stopped breathing, necessitating the use of a defibrillator to restart his heart.

The ordeal didn’t end there. Upon arrival at the hospital and during his check-in, he suffered a second heart attack. At some point during this critical period, he again ceased breathing, amplifying the urgency and gravity of the situation. Following these life-threatening events, the fitness icon was airlifted to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno for more advanced care.
“Felt Like He Died Twice in 47 Minutes”
The intensity of the experience was palpable, with another source describing the situation as “touch and go.” This individual shared that Norris’ wife was permitted to accompany him on the medical flight. The rapid succession of events was so overwhelming that it “felt like he died twice in 47 minutes!”

The source further elaborated on the chaotic atmosphere, noting, “There was so much hysteria it’s impossible to know how long the ordeal lasted.” They recalled the intense focus on the medical equipment, stating, “People were watching the heart monitor — not the clock!” This vivid description highlights the sheer terror and uncertainty faced by those present during this critical time.
Family’s Confirmation of Passing
As previously reported, Norris’ loved ones confirmed his death via social media on March 20, a day after news broke that he had been hospitalised in Hawaii.

The family’s heartfelt statement conveyed their profound grief: “It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning. While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he was surrounded by his family and was at peace.” They fondly remembered him not just as a global icon, but as a deeply personal figure: “To the world, he was a martial artist, actor, and a symbol of strength. To us, he was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, an incredible brother, and the heart of our family.”

The message continued to paint a picture of a life lived with unwavering principles: “He lived his life with faith, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved. Through his work, discipline, and kindness, he inspired millions around the world and left a lasting impact on so many lives.” They expressed deep gratitude for the life he lived and the shared moments: “While our hearts are broken, we are deeply grateful for the life he lived and for the unforgettable moments we were blessed to share with him.” The family also acknowledged the immense support from his global fanbase, stating, “The love and support he received from fans around the world meant so much to him, and our family is truly thankful for it. To him, you were not just fans, you were his friends.”
Acknowledging the public’s awareness of his recent health issues, the family added, “We know many of you had heard about his recent hospitalization, and we are truly grateful for the prayers and support you sent his way.” They concluded with a plea for privacy during their time of mourning: “As we grieve this loss, we kindly ask for privacy for our family during this time. Thank you for loving him with us. With love, The Norris Family.”
