Country music’s global melody as a travel phenomenon

The Global Appeal of Country Music

Country music continues to resonate with international travelers, drawing millions to iconic destinations and events around the world. From the vibrant neon lights and live performances along “Honky Tonk Highway” on Lower Broadway in Nashville, Tennessee, to the growing country music scenes in Europe, this distinctly American genre has become a major force in global tourism.

Major festivals like the four-day CMA Fest held every June in Nashville and C2C: Country to Country in cities such as London, Glasgow, and Berlin continue to attract large international crowds. These events not only celebrate the music but also highlight the cultural significance of country music across different regions.

At the same time, country music’s integration into mainstream pop culture has further broadened its appeal. Artists like Taylor Swift have played a pivotal role in this evolution. Discovered at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, she has since become a global phenomenon and a significant driver of tourism. Her record-breaking Eras tour, which grossed $2.07 billion and sold over 10 million tickets, created a trend known as “Swiftonomics,” influencing both entertainment and business sectors worldwide.

A New Hotel Paying Tribute to Country Music

Nashville, often referred to as “Music City,” is home to numerous attractions that celebrate the rich history of country music. Visitors can explore the legendary Grand Ole Opry, the historic Ryman Auditorium—known as the “Mother Church of Country Music”—and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. For those looking to immerse themselves in the genre even further, there’s now a new hotel set to open in mid-June 2026 in downtown Nashville.

Dolly Parton’s SongTeller Hotel will pay tribute to the life and legacy of one of country music’s most beloved stars. Each room is uniquely themed, including Acoustic Suites featuring her guitars and the Six Sisters Suite honoring her family. Guests can enjoy live performances at venues like Parton’s Live and Jolene’s, alongside Southern-inspired dining experiences.

The hotel also features “Dolly’s Life of Many Colors” museum, showcasing iconic costumes and rare memorabilia from her chart-topping career. Dolly expressed her excitement about the project, stating that it felt like the right time to bring something special to Nashville, a city she calls home.

A Country Music-Themed Cruise for 2027

For those who want to experience the spirit of Nashville beyond the city, a new cruise is set to launch in 2027. The “Nashville Nights” country music-themed sailing, organized by Cruise.co.uk in partnership with Ambassador Cruise Line, will offer an unforgettable journey for fans.

Starting at £489 (€565) per person, the four-night no-fly cruise aboard the Ambience ship will depart from Tilbury on 25 March 2027, visiting Zeebrugge (Bruges) and Amsterdam before returning to the UK port. Onboard, guests can participate in country music quizzes, themed dining, silent discos, fitness sessions, line dancing classes, and open mic nights for aspiring singer-songwriters.

Tribute acts celebrating Johnny Cash, Shania Twain, Lainey Wilson, and Luke Combs will headline the entertainment programme, supported by live bands such as The Charmed and Britt & The Backbeat. The traditional formal night will be replaced by a “Denim & Diamonds” celebration, adding to the country theme.
