Courtney Love pushes Dave Grohl to end their bitter feud

Courtney Love has publicly addressed Dave Grohl of Nirvana, criticizing him for not informing his fans that the two are now on good terms after a long-standing feud.

Love, the frontwoman of Hole, was married to Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain for two years before his death in 1994. She famously sued the band’s remaining members in 1997, seeking to dissolve their limited liability company, which had been set up to manage Nirvana’s business affairs. While Grohl and bassist Krist Novoselic counter-sued, the matter was eventually settled in 2002, allowing a best-of compilation of Nirvana’s work to be released.

Speaking on The Magnificent Others with Billy Corgan podcast, Love revealed that she and Grohl resolved their differences over a decade ago and urged the Foo Fighters frontman to inform his fans about their reconciliation.

“Like, come out with it and just say we’re cool. Like, come out with it. Right?” she said during the April 1 episode. “Be man enough to man up.”

She suggested that Grohl might be hesitant to acknowledge their friendship due to fear of losing the support of his male fanbase.

“We’re cool, but you won’t say it because you’re afraid you’ll lose your audience?” she asked. “Dave. It would really behoove me if the straight white males that are your base, if you will, stop picking on me. Millennials in particular. Gen Z is not picking on me anymore.”

Corgan added: “I can confirm that I’ve spent time with you and Dave together and Dave doesn’t have any issue with you.”

The Independent has reached out to Grohl for comment.

Grohl joined Nirvana in 1990, shortly after Love and Cobain began their relationship. They married in 1992 and had a daughter, Frances Bean Cobain.

Cobain died by suicide on April 5, 1994, at the age of 27.

Despite their legal battle in the 1990s, both Grohl and Love have since confirmed that they reconciled when Nirvana was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.

Grohl told Rolling Stone in 2024: “Early on in the evening I just tapped her on the shoulder. She turned around and I just said, ‘Hey.’ She said, ‘Hey.’ Then we gave each other a big hug. I said, ‘How are you?’ She goes, ‘Good, how are you?’ I said, ‘All right.’ And she said, ‘Let’s do this. Let’s rock this tonight.’”

He added that they are “family” and “love each other, no matter what.”
