A Thrilling Encounter at Chepauk
In a high-octane match that had fans on the edge of their seats, Punjab Kings (PBKS) pulled off an impressive chase to secure a five-wicket victory against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 7 of IPL 2026. The game, held at Chepauk, saw PBKS successfully chase a daunting target of 210 runs, finishing with 210/5 in 18.4 overs. Key contributions came from Priyansh Arya and Shreyas Iyer, who played crucial roles in ensuring the win. CSK, on the other hand, posted a formidable total of 209/5, thanks to the efforts of Ayush Mhatre and Shivam Dube.
CSK’s Strong Start
Chennai Super Kings started their innings strongly, managing to score a massive 209/5 in their 20 overs. Despite losing their opener early in the innings, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ayush Mhatre formed a solid partnership that helped rebuild the innings. Mhatre was in exceptional form, scoring 73 off just 43 balls, which included 6 boundaries and 5 sixes. His performance was instrumental in keeping the run rate high.
Shivam Dube provided the finishing touch with an unbeaten 45 off 27 deliveries. Sarfaraz Khan also made a significant contribution with a quickfire knock of 32 off 12 balls, helping the team cross the 200-run mark. Although the Super Kings scored at over 10 runs per over, they fell short of their target. The Punjab Kings’ pacers, including Vijaykumar Vyshak, who took 2 wickets, did well to restrict the run flow. Chahal maintained an economy rate below 8, while Chahar added a crucial wicket.
PBKS’ Successful Chase
Punjab Kings began their chase with a flying start, thanks to the explosive performance of young batter Priyansh Arya. He took the opposition attack to task, scoring 39 off just 11 deliveries. Prabhsimran Singh and Cooper Connolly provided valuable support with knocks of 26 and 36 respectively.
Captain Shreyas Iyer led from the front with a composed 50 off 29 deliveries, ensuring that the run chase never fell behind the required rate. Despite a flurry of wickets in the middle of the innings, the Punjab Kings remained calm and composed. Ultimately, they managed to chase down the target with Shashank Singh and Marcus Stoinis remaining at the crease.
