Daisy Knatchbull, William’s cousin and Kate’s top designer, announces engagement

A Royal Engagement: Daisy Knatchbull and Gionzy Damiani

Daisy Knatchbull, the third cousin of Princes William and Harry and a favored designer of the Princess of Wales, has announced her engagement to Italian music executive Gionzy Damiani. The 33-year-old fashion designer and founder of her own label, Knatchbull, shared the news on Instagram during a romantic getaway in the Bahamas.

“Getting hitched,” she wrote alongside a ring emoji. “(And making gift shop turtle rings a thing).”

The announcement was met with warm congratulations from several high-profile figures. Celebrity chef Nigella Lawson commented, “He’s the luckiest man in the world! And you haven’t done too badly, either! I feel the spheres are aligned.” Her actress cousin Kelly Knatchbull also extended her wishes, writing, “Welcome to the family.” Princess Beatrice’s husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, added, “Yipeeeeee. Congratulations.”

A Family Tied to Royalty

Daisy is the daughter of Atalanta and Philip Knatchbull, and the granddaughter of Patricia, 2nd Countess Mountbatten of Burma, and John, 7th Baron Brabourne. Philip Knatchbull’s grandfather on his mother’s side was Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma, who was the beloved uncle of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and a father figure to King Charles prior to his assassination by the IRA in 1979. The bomb blast also claimed the life of Philip’s younger brother, Nicholas, paving the way for Daisy’s uncle Norton to become the 3rd Earl Mountbatten of Burma until his death in 2017.

The Knatchbull family has remained close to the royal family and has played a significant role in many royal events over the years. When Norton Knatchbull’s daughter Alexandra married in 2016, it was King Charles who walked her down the aisle.

A Fashion Legacy

Daisy is the third cousin to Princes William and Harry. The Princess of Wales has been known to wear Daisy’s designs. Knatchbull first launched her business in 2019, becoming the first female tailoring service on the famed Savile Row. Initially called The Deck, the brand rebranded in 2024.

The Princess of Wales has been photographed in her designs, including at a Future Workforce Summit in London last November, when she wore the label’s ivory ‘Cascade’ blouse. Daisy’s sister, Phoebe Knatchbull, wore an ivory suit dress with black detail when she married British banker Leopold Glover last year during a small service at Chelsea Register Office in Kensington. She had previously told a reporter she planned to wear one of her sister’s designs.

“Every bride dressed in Knatchbull looks incredible,” she said at the time. Daisy wore a pink suit with white trim for her sister’s big day.

A Growing Influence in the Fashion World

Daisy’s work has not only captured the attention of the royal family but also gained recognition in the fashion industry. Her brand, Knatchbull, has been celebrated for its unique approach to tailoring and style. With a focus on elegance and sophistication, the label has quickly become a favorite among those seeking high-quality, bespoke clothing.

As Daisy prepares for her upcoming wedding to Gionzy Damiani, the fashion world will be watching closely to see how her personal journey influences her future designs. With her strong ties to the royal family and a growing reputation as a talented designer, Daisy Knatchbull is poised to make an even greater impact in the world of fashion.
