A Harmonious Encore: Danielle Spencer on Reuniting with Russell Crowe on Stage
Last year, Australian actress and singer Danielle Spencer shared a heartwarming glimpse into her reunion with her former husband, the esteemed actor Russell Crowe. The amicable exes graced the stage together for a special music performance at Sydney’s iconic Enmore Theatre in December. Spencer made a special appearance as a ‘guest performer’ during a one-off show headlined by Crowe’s band, Indoor Garden Party.
Spencer recently spoke with Nine Honey, expressing her gratitude for Crowe’s invitation. She described the experience as “lovely of him” and particularly poignant for their two sons, Charles, 19, and Tennyson, 22.
“I thought it was a really sweet thing to do, and it was lovely for our boys to have mum and dad both doing their thing up on stage,” Spencer told the publication. “It felt like such a special moment; I haven’t performed with Russell in a long time. The night was incredible.”

She reflected on the performance as a significant and sentimental “full circle moment” with Crowe. This rekindling of their musical connection held deep meaning for the actress and singer.
“Russell and I connected through music in the early days of knowing each other,” Danielle revealed to news.com.au. “We’ve performed together countless times over the years. It seemed like a lovely full circle moment.”
This collaborative performance comes after Spencer candidly discussed the emotional toll and guilt she experienced following her 2018 divorce from Crowe. The actress and musician opened up about their high-profile split, which occurred after 15 years of marriage, on the Stellar podcast “Something To Talk About.”
“It’s really sad breaking up with somebody that you’ve known for so long, that you’ve had children with,” she confessed to podcast host Sarrah Le Marquand. “Me kind of breaking up the family – and it felt very much like I was driving that – so I had to deal with my almost sense of guilt that I was fracturing the family, but obviously I did it for a number of reasons and I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t think it needed to happen.”

Spencer emphasised that while she and Crowe have cultivated a strong friendship and successfully co-parent their sons, the path to that harmony was not without its difficulties.
“There were days and moments where obviously things were not fine, were tense, we were unhappy and it’s sad,” she shared, stressing that she doesn’t want people to perceive their divorce as an easy or smooth transition.
Crowe himself has previously spoken about maintaining close ties with his ex-wife. During an appearance on The Kyle and Jackie O Show, he expressed his enthusiasm for the one-night-only concert and the unique addition of Spencer as an opening act.
Radio host Kyle Sandilands commended Crowe for his ability to maintain a positive relationship with his former spouse. “Isn’t it nice when you can get an ex to also show up and it doesn’t cause any trouble with the current missus? Everyone’s happy. She’s the mother of your child,” Sandilands remarked about the harmonious blended family dynamic.
Crowe responded positively, stating, “Yeah everybody’s cool. The coolest about that is my kids. They’re like, ‘Dad, that’s really excellent’.”
The couple, who married in 2003, separated in 2012, with their divorce being finalised in 2018. Their recent on-stage collaboration serves as a testament to their enduring respect and a shared appreciation for music, creating a memorable experience for themselves and their family.
