The upcoming season of Daredevil: Born Again is set to bring back one of the most iconic superhero teams from Marvel, the Defenders. Recent leaked images from the production have revealed that Mike Colter, who plays Luke Cage, and Finn Jones, known for his role as Danny Rand (Iron Fist), will be joining Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones in the series. These characters previously came together in Netflix’s The Defenders, a single-season show that aired in 2017. This new collaboration marks the first time the team has reunited on the Disney+ platform, even though each character has had their own individual series on Netflix.
A New Chapter for the Defenders
The latest season of Daredevil: Born Again sees Matt Murdock, also known as Daredevil, going undercover to take down Mayor Wilson Fisk and his criminal activities in New York. In Season 3, it seems the stakes are higher than ever, with Daredevil enlisting the help of his fellow heroes—Luke Cage, Danny Rand, and Jessica Jones. This is the first time the Defenders have come together on the same side since their Netflix series ended, and fans are eagerly anticipating how this reunion will unfold.
While Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again still has several episodes left, it remains unclear how the storyline will lead into the return of the Defenders. However, it is likely that the narrative will begin with the return of Jessica Jones. After the second season of Daredevil: Born Again, Jon Bernthal’s The Punisher: One Last Kill is expected to debut in May 2026, with the third season of Daredevil: Born Again anticipated to launch in 2027.
Who Are the Defenders?
The Defenders are a group of Marvel superheroes who were originally featured in separate television series on Netflix. These shows were aimed at an older audience and included more intense violence. Mike Colter played Luke Cage in his own series, which ran from 2016 to 2018. Cage is a reformed criminal with superhuman strength and unbreakable skin, dedicated to cleaning up the streets of New York.
Finn Jones portrayed Danny Rand, also known as Iron Fist, in his own series, Iron Fist, which aired from 2017 to 2018. Danny is a martial artist with supernatural abilities. On the other hand, Krysten Ritter played Jessica Jones, a former superhero turned private investigator. Her series was available on Netflix from 2015 to 2018.
Colter’s Luke Cage made his debut in Jessica Jones, and the two characters shared a complicated romantic relationship. Cage, Rand, Jones, and Murdock all came together for an eight-episode miniseries, The Defenders, in 2017. Following the end of the Netflix series, Marvel shifted its focus to its own streaming platform, Disney+.
