Dewsbury-Hall’s late strike seals draw for Everton at Brentford

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scored a last-minute equaliser as Everton managed to secure a 2-2 draw against Brentford in the Premier League at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Igor Thiago was instrumental in putting Brentford in a strong position to win, scoring twice and becoming the club’s record scorer in a single Premier League season with his 21st goal. His first goal came from a penalty in the third minute, and he added another in the 77th minute, which was somewhat fortunate. However, Dewsbury-Hall ensured the match ended in a draw by scoring on the rebound just past the 90th minute. Beto had earlier equalised for Everton in the 27th minute with a header.

Both teams remain in contention for European qualification, but they missed an opportunity to put pressure on Liverpool and Chelsea in their pursuit of a top-five finish, which would secure Champions League spots.

Brentford remains in seventh place with 47 points after four consecutive league draws, while Everton is in eighth place, just ahead of Brentford on goal difference. The next match for both teams will be the Merseyside derby.

The game was filled with numerous chances, including Kevin Schade and Brentford captain Nathan Collins hitting the crossbar when the score was 1-1.

Everton manager David Moyes has shown openness towards the possibility of a European campaign, whereas Brentford’s manager Keith Andrews has taken a more cautious approach. Andrews, who has had a successful first season in management since replacing Thomas Frank last summer, saw his team start the game strongly.

Schade created an early chance by breaking away from a static defense and was fouled as he attempted to round Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. Thiago converted the penalty, sending the ball into the bottom left corner. This goal made Thiago one of only three Brentford players to reach 20 goals in a Premier League season, alongside Ivan Toney and Bryan Mbeumo.

Brentford goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher made a solid save to deny Idrissa Gueye a goal in the 22nd minute, and then blocked Beto’s follow-up effort, although the offside flag was raised.

Beto, who had previously scored twice in a 3-0 victory over Chelsea, finally found the net four minutes later. With the hosts appealing for a possible foul by Jake O’Brien, Gueye delivered a cross that allowed Beto to head the ball into the far corner.

Everton began to take control of the game but could have been behind at halftime. Pickford redeemed himself after conceding the early penalty by saving a shot wide from Mathias Jensen and then blocking Dango Ouattara’s effort after Schade hit the crossbar from a corner.

Collins also hit the crossbar within three minutes of the second half as Brentford regained control. Jarrad Branthwaite made a crucial block to stop Schade. On the other end, Kelleher denied Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye with a foot save and later stopped Dewsbury-Hall.

Brentford looked to have won the match with 13 minutes remaining when Michael Kayode broke into the box and his shot deflected in off Thiago. However, the Bees were not given a reprieve in the dying moments. O’Brien’s initial shot was blocked by Kayode, and Dewsbury-Hall capitalized on the rebound to score and celebrate with the traveling Everton fans.
