Duchess’s Hospital Surprise: Documentary Deal Revealed

Duchess of Sussex Surprises Young Patients with Creative Hospital Visit

Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, recently made a heartwarming surprise visit to young patients at a Los Angeles hospital, bringing a splash of colour and cheer through art and craft activities. The 44-year-old royal donned a mask as she joined the children, spending time painting and engaging in creative projects.

Her visit wasn’t just a brief stop; Meghan also took the time to connect with patients individually in their rooms. The initiative wasn’t self-promoted by the Duchess. Instead, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles shared the heartwarming moments on their official Instagram account, showcasing Meghan’s presence on the hospital wards.

The hospital’s Instagram post shared the touching caption: “Today we were honored to welcome LA’s own @meghan, Duchess of Sussex, to CHLA’s Creative Oasis, where she spent time painting alongside our incredible patients. These special moments are a reminder of how powerful creativity can be in fostering joy, connection, and healing.”

This thoughtful visit is part of the hospital’s annual “Make March Matter” fundraiser. This significant campaign rallies support for the vital lifesaving care and ongoing research conducted daily at the institution.

“Cookie Queens” Documentary Finds New Home

The Duchess’s community engagement comes at a time when a documentary produced by Harry and Meghan’s Archewell Productions, titled “Cookie Queens,” has been acquired by an independent production firm. While Netflix typically holds the first refusal rights for projects from Archewell Productions, it appears they have opted not to acquire this particular film.

According to reports in Variety magazine, the US rights for “Cookie Queens,” a film exploring the cherished tradition of Girl Scout cookies, have been purchased by Roadside Attractions. The Sussexes had previously presented the documentary to Netflix. The film made its debut at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival.

Described as a “coming-of-age story,” “Cookie Queens” delves into the joys, pressures, and emotional nuances embedded within one of America’s most beloved rituals: Girl Scout Cookie season.

This development follows a revised first-look deal signed between Harry and Meghan and Netflix last year. This agreement grants the streaming service the initial option on projects developed by Archewell Productions.

Meghan’s Lifestyle Ventures and Future Aspirations

In parallel, it has been revealed that Meghan’s lifestyle company, As Ever, which offers products such as jams, herbal teas, and chocolates, has concluded its partnership with Netflix this month. A source connected to the Duchess indicated that Meghan felt Netflix was perhaps too “cautious” in its approach. The insider suggested she is enthusiastic about taking “complete control” of her burgeoning jam business.

The Duchess of Sussex apparently believes that severing ties with Netflix after less than a year will pave the way for her jams and candles to achieve global reach. Reflecting on her documentary, “Cookie Queens,” Meghan previously expressed a personal connection to the film, stating, “As a former Girl Scout myself, with my mom as my troop leader, I have a personal affinity for this film.”

She lauded the documentary as “one of the most powerful and meaningful depictions of something that is an American tradition and rooted in nostalgia.”

Archewell Productions collaborated with Beautiful Stories and AJNA Films on “Cookie Queens,” with Harry and Meghan serving as executive producers. The film was directed by Alysa Nahmias and premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. It is slated to be showcased at the SXSW (South by South West) music and film festival before its theatrical release in cinemas over the summer.
