Josh Duhamel Opens Up About Marriage to Fergie and Navigating Stardom
Actor Josh Duhamel has offered a rare and candid glimpse into his eight-year marriage to Grammy-winning singer Fergie, reflecting on the dynamics of their relationship, particularly during the peak of her global fame. Speaking on “The Megyn Kelly Show,” Duhamel, now 53, admitted to experiencing feelings of inferiority at times, a sentiment he attributes largely to his own ego and the stark contrast in their public profiles.
“It was a huge shift because she was a massive star at the time and so it was a big adjustment for me, if I’m being honest,” Duhamel shared. He went on to describe Fergie as a “very normal person, at the end of the day,” a “good mom,” and someone with whom he maintains a “great relationship.” He also revealed that Fergie and his current wife, Audra Mari, get along exceptionally well, a point of pride for him.
The couple, who were married from 2009 to 2019, with a separation in 2017, share a 12-year-old son, Axl. Duhamel remarried Mari in 2022. The couple already have a two-year-old son, Shepherd, and are eagerly anticipating the arrival of a baby daughter.
Navigating the Spotlight: Stardom and Ego
During the interview, Duhamel didn’t shy away from discussing the challenges that arose from their differing levels of fame. He acknowledged that they grappled with “whose star was bigger” during the height of Fergie’s musical career. “It’s probably my own ego more than anything,” he confessed. “I don’t think it bugged her as much as it probably did me. But she was a massive star at the time!” He candidly admitted to often feeling like he was “in her shadow.”
A Harmonious Co-Parenting Relationship
Despite the divorce, Duhamel emphasised that he and Fergie have cultivated a “great relationship” today. Their primary focus remains their son, Axl, and they are committed co-parents. “She’s a great mom,” Duhamel stated. He expressed his immense happiness in his current marriage to Audra, with whom he shares a young son and is expecting a daughter.
Crucially, Duhamel highlighted the positive rapport between Fergie and Audra. “I’m extremely happily married now to my wife, Audra. We have a beautiful son and a little girl on the way. [Audra and Fergie] have a great relationship, which is what I really care about.” His desire for a peaceful and conflict-free environment for everyone involved is paramount. “I want to make sure everybody is just copacetic. I just want peace and I don’t want any in-fighting between anybody,” he explained. He expressed gratitude for their “very civil” approach to co-parenting, acknowledging that such situations “could be ugly but, thankfully, it’s not.”

The Duhamel family is set to grow, with Audra Mari announcing her pregnancy in early March. She shared a series of intimate black-and-white photos showcasing her growing baby bump. “Adding a little girl to our story…We can’t wait to meet you 🤍@joshduhamel,” Mari captioned her post. Duhamel responded with heartfelt enthusiasm in the comments, writing, “Can’t wait to meet that little cutie💕 Love you momma.” Fergie also chimed in with her support, welcoming the impending arrival with a series of heart emojis: “Welcome the cuteness! 💖💖.”
This sentiment of amicable relations was echoed by Duhamel in April 2025, when he reaffirmed his positive connection with his ex-wife. “Thankfully, we still have a really good relationship,” he stated. “We co-parent [Axl]. There’s very little conflict there.” He elaborated on their co-parenting philosophy, noting that while they may have “different ways of going about it,” Fergie trusts his judgment and prioritises their son’s best interests, a sentiment he reciprocates. This mutual respect and trust form the bedrock of their successful co-parenting dynamic.
