Edge-of-your-seat thriller about a cleaner pushed to the limit now on Netflix

A Thriller That Keeps You Hooked

Netflix has recently released a new thriller that has been described as “captivating and fast-paced,” making it the perfect choice for binge-watching over the weekend. This show, titled The Cleaning Lady, is now available to stream and has already caught the attention of many viewers.

The Storyline

The Cleaning Lady first premiered in 2022 and features Elodie Yung in the lead role as Thony De La Rosa, a Cambodian Filipino surgeon working at a top hospital in Manila. After relocating to the United States, specifically Las Vegas, Thony faces a series of challenges. Her visa expires, leaving her as an undocumented immigrant, while her five-year-old son, Luca, battles a rare autoimmune illness that requires advanced bone marrow treatment.

To support her family financially, Thony takes up a cleaning job. However, her life takes a dramatic turn when she witnesses a murder. Unbeknownst to her, this incident leads her to be discovered by gangster Arman Morales, played by Adan Canto, who was responsible for the crime.

Morales offers Thony a unique opportunity: a job that combines her medical expertise with her cleaning duties within his criminal network. The financial incentives are enough to help her son and provide a sense of security. As a result, Thony begins living a double life—cleaning up crime scenes while evading the law.

All four seasons of The Cleaning Lady are currently available on Netflix, allowing fans to watch the entire series in one go.

Viewer Reactions

Fans have praised the show for its suspense, drama, and emotional depth. One viewer wrote, “It’s been a long time since any series has captivated me so much and offered me such a mix of suspense, drama and emotional depth.” Another said, “A very different idea which is refreshing to watch. Plenty of action happening all through. The time went by fast and at the end of each episode I couldn’t wait to watch the next.”

Another fan noted, “The Cleaning Lady is one of those shows that quietly hooks you and doesn’t let go. What starts as a crime drama becomes a tense, emotional survival story, and it works because it feels grounded and real.”

Tragic Loss

In January 2024, the actor Adan Canto, who portrayed Arman Morales, passed away at the age of 42 after a battle with appendiceal cancer. He appeared in the first two seasons of the show, with his character being written out in the third and fourth seasons.

Canto’s representatives shared a statement, saying, “Adan had a depth of spirit that few truly knew. Those who glimpsed it were changed forever.” His passing left a significant impact on the entertainment industry, with Hollywood actress Halle Berry among those who paid tribute to him.

Berry posted a message on Instagram, captioning a photo of Canto: “My dear sweet friend Adan just gained his wings. Forever, forever in my heart.” The pair worked together on the 2020 sports drama Bruised, where Canto played Berry’s character’s manager, Desi.

Other Crime Drama Highlights

Meanwhile, crime drama fans were excited about the return of another popular show, Grace, to ITV. Based on Peter James’ Roy Grace books, the series made its debut on the channel in 2021. The latest season premiered with a “powerful, edge-of-your-seat” episode, drawing praise from viewers.

Set in Brighton and Hove, Grace stars John Simm as Detective Superintendent Roy Grace and Richie Campbell as Detective Sergeant Glenn Branson. Over the years, the show has featured a variety of actors, including Rakie Ayola, Sam Hoare, Craig Parkinson, and others.

The sixth season aired recently, and fans were thrilled with the episode. Many took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their thoughts, with one user stating, “New season of Grace starts tonight, one of the best shows on TV and the first episode on ITVX now!! 9/10.”

Another fan wrote, “It was very good, well acted and an interesting storyline. The backdrop of the sunny South Coast also makes it a little more rewarding to watch as well. #ITV does a good drama. They just need to give channel 5 some lessons.”

However, not all reactions were positive. Some viewers expressed disagreement, writing, “Is it me? Can’t say I have watched many episodes before but the acting was like the local amateur drama group.” Others questioned the direction of the new season, saying, “Is it just me or is the new series of #Grace on very badly directed? No flow to the scenes, each scene looks ‘staged’ & wooden. Like an acting school.”

Despite the mixed reviews, Grace continues to attract a loyal following, proving its place as a compelling crime drama.
