Electra on Nader’s “Baywatch” Debut

Brooks Nader is making waves in the entertainment industry, officially joining the cast of Fox’s upcoming Baywatch sequel series. The news has generated considerable buzz, particularly from Carmen Electra, who famously portrayed Lani McKenzie in the original Baywatch from 1989 to 2001. Electra expressed her enthusiastic support for Nader’s casting, seeing it as a natural progression for the iconic franchise.

The new Baywatch series is slated for a 2026-2027 season premiere on Fox, promising a fresh take on the beloved lifeguard drama. The reboot aims to capture the essence of the original while introducing contemporary themes and challenges.

A New Generation of Lifeguards

Carmen Electra, speaking at the An Unforgettable Evening charity gala in Los Angeles, shared her positive outlook on Brooks Nader’s entry into the Baywatch universe. When asked about Nader’s potential fit, Electra confidently stated, “I do. Absolutely. Yeah.” This endorsement from a seasoned Baywatch alumna carries significant weight.

Adding to the excitement, David Chokachi, who played Cody Madison in the original series, will reprise his role. Electra deemed his return “well-deserved,” highlighting the continuity and nostalgia the reboot intends to leverage.

The narrative of the reboot centers on Hobie Buchannon, portrayed by Stephen Amell, who steps into the role of a Baywatch captain. This position follows in the legacy of his father, Mitch Buchannon, originally played by David Hasselhoff. A compelling plot point involves the unexpected arrival of Charlie, Hobie’s estranged daughter, played by Jessica Belkin. Charlie expresses a strong desire to follow in her father’s footsteps and become a lifeguard, eager to uphold the Buchannon family legacy.

Brooks Nader’s Role and Character

Brooks Nader, 29, will be a series regular, taking on the character of Selene. Her official description paints Selene as the “sharp-tongued Captain of the Zuma beach lifeguards.” While highly competent in her role, Selene is characterized by her contrasting approach to life-saving compared to Baywatch Captain Hobie Buchannon. This difference in methodology is expected to be a significant source of friction between them.

The tension between Selene and Hobie is anticipated to escalate with the arrival of Charlie. The character description hints that their rivalry extends beyond professional disagreements, suggesting a deeper, more personal conflict that will unfold as Charlie joins Hobie’s team.

Nader herself celebrated her casting news with enthusiasm. She shared a repost on her Instagram Stories, featuring a photograph of herself in a Baywatch-inspired red one-piece swimsuit from her appearance in the 2023 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue. Her caption indicated that this role was something she had been manifesting, highlighting her personal connection to the Baywatch aesthetic and brand.

An Expansive Cast and Renewed Mission

The Baywatch reboot boasts an impressive ensemble cast beyond Nader, Amell, and Belkin. The lineup includes:

  • Hassie Harrison as Nat
  • Thaddeus LaGrone as Brad
  • Shay Mitchell as Trina
  • Noah Beck as Luke
  • Livvy Dunne as Grace

Fox first announced the return of Baywatch in September 2025, marking a significant comeback nearly 25 years after the original series concluded in May 2001.

The official synopsis for the reboot promises a revival of the elements that made the original a global phenomenon: “Fans can expect all the adrenaline-fueled rescues, tangled relationships, complicated chemistry and beachside heroics that defined the original — now with an entirely new cast, contemporary trappings, tensions and challenges, and a renewed mission to protect Southern California’s shoreline.”

Carmen Electra’s Potential Return

Interestingly, Carmen Electra herself has expressed openness to revisiting the Baywatch world. Shortly after the new series was announced, she revealed that she was in discussions with the reboot’s creative team. Electra told TMZ that reprising her role as Lani McKenzie and donning the iconic red swimsuit again “could be fun.”

While she noted she might not necessarily want to be in the water, she humorously added, “I can definitely do that” referring to the signature slow-motion run. She also confidently stated, “I still look really good in that suit, so that is not a problem.” This suggests that while the focus is on a new cast, there might be opportunities for beloved original stars to make guest appearances, adding another layer of appeal for long-time fans.
