Emyria Expands Mental Health Care in Victoria

Emyria’s Victorian Mental Health Clinic on Track for Mid-2026 Launch

Emyria, a company dedicated to developing and delivering regulated mental health treatments, is making significant headway in establishing its inaugural Empax clinic in Victoria. Patient treatments are anticipated to commence in the second quarter of 2026, marking a substantial expansion of Emyria’s national clinical footprint. This new facility will offer much-needed, evidence-informed care for individuals grappling with complex and treatment-resistant mental health conditions.

The Empax model is designed to provide integrated care, combining expert psychiatrist-led oversight with medication-assisted treatment programs. These programs operate within stringent regulatory frameworks, ensuring patient safety and efficacy. The Victorian clinic will be situated within the licensed Mornington Peninsula hospital, operated by Emyria’s site partner, Avive Health. This strategic location will grant patients access to both private and government-funded treatment pathways, enhancing accessibility to crucial mental health services.

Emyria already boasts a robust national presence, with existing operations including a clinic in Brisbane, also in partnership with Avive Health, and two clinics in Perth. These Perth-based facilities comprise a community centre and a unit within a private mental health hospital, demonstrating Emyria’s commitment to diverse service delivery models.

Navigating Regulatory Changes for Advanced Therapies

The landscape of mental health treatment in Australia has seen a significant evolution, particularly with the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) taking a pioneering global step. In 2023, the TGA reclassified psilocybin and MDMA for limited medical applications. This groundbreaking decision permits their prescription by authorised psychiatrists for patients suffering from treatment-resistant depression (TRD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), albeit through highly regulated access pathways.

Emyria’s Empax clinic model was specifically developed to align with these regulatory advancements, aiming to provide a scalable and reimbursable framework for medication-assisted care. This forward-thinking approach positions Emyria at the forefront of emerging mental health treatments.

Building a Strong Clinical Foundation

A key element of Emyria’s strategy is its proactive approach to building clinical capacity well in advance of the Victorian clinic’s opening. This ensures a seamless and efficient commencement of patient services from day one. To date, Emyria has successfully recruited and trained a substantial cohort of Victorian therapists.

  • Therapist Network: Thirty-one Victorian therapists have been contracted and have completed Emyria’s proprietary training program. This extensive network is crucial for providing comprehensive patient support.
  • Psychiatrist Credentials: A significant milestone has been achieved with four Victorian psychiatrists completing their training, which facilitates their advancement towards Authorised Prescriber credentials. Furthermore, an additional two psychiatrists are scheduled to complete their training in the second quarter of 2026. This expansion bolsters Emyria’s national network of specialist Authorised Prescribers, essential for overseeing its medication-assisted therapy programs.

Emyria has expressed confidence that this strong workforce foundation will enable an efficient ramp-up of services post-launch, ensuring high-quality care delivery.

Anticipating Referral Demand

Even before the Victorian clinic opens its doors, Emyria is observing a growing demand for its services. Across its existing clinic network, Emyria currently manages active waitlists, with referral enquiry volumes consistently increasing on a quarter-on-quarter basis.

The company anticipates that the Victorian clinic will cultivate a similarly robust referral base, bolstered by Victoria’s larger population and well-established networks of psychiatrists. Early interactions with Victorian clinicians have revealed considerable interest in the funded treatment pathways that Emyria offers for patients experiencing treatment-resistant depression and PTSD. This indicates a significant unmet need within the state.

Operational Readiness and Revenue Streams

Operational preparations for the Victorian clinic are progressing according to schedule, a testament to Emyria’s meticulous planning. A full-form agreement has been finalised with Avive Health, paving the way for minor fit-out works to commence at the site. Crucially, medication supply has been secured, and pharmacy agreements are in the final stages of negotiation.

Emyria is also collaborating closely with Avive Health to integrate clinical governance processes and ensure strict adherence to all regulatory requirements. These operational milestones are vital in mitigating execution risks and establishing a clear trajectory towards early revenue generation for the new facility.

Dual Reimbursement Pathways for Financial Stability

The Victorian Empax clinic is set to benefit from two complementary reimbursement models, providing a strong foundation for early utilisation and financial sustainability.

  • Private Health Insurance: Medibank Private, a leading Australian health insurer, will cover eligible patients for treatment-resistant depression (TRD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) programs. This partnership significantly broadens access for a large segment of the population.
  • Government Funding: The Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) has committed to funding eligible veterans who are facing challenging TRD and PTSD conditions. This initiative underscores Emyria’s commitment to supporting those who have served the nation.

Emyria believes these dual reimbursement pathways will be instrumental in underpinning the early use of the clinic, reducing reliance on self-funded patients, and reinforcing the potential for substantial growth as the company continues to expand its national network.

Strategic Positioning for Scaled Growth

The forthcoming launch of the Victorian Empax clinic represents a pivotal moment in Emyria’s overarching strategy to scale its proven Empax model across Australia.

Executive Chairman, Greg Hutchinson, expressed his satisfaction with the progress: “We are pleased to see strong execution across all key workstreams as we approach the launch of our first Victorian Empax clinic. Importantly, we have made significant progress in building clinical capacity ahead of opening, positioning the clinic for an efficient ramp-up phase. With funded patient pathways in place and operational readiness advancing, we believe this clinic will play a key role in driving growth and expanding access to reimbursable, evidence-informed mental health treatments.”
