Enzo Maresca Makes Return to Social Media After Three-Month Silence
Enzo Maresca, the former manager of Chelsea, has made a rare appearance on social media after a three-month period of silence. This comes following his farewell message to the club, marking the end of his tenure as head coach. The Italian manager has also subtly hinted at a potential return to management in the near future.
Maresca left Chelsea on New Year’s Day and was succeeded by Liam Rosenior. A week later, he shared a goodbye message on his official Instagram account, but since then, he had remained largely absent from public view. On the exact three-month anniversary of that message, Maresca posted again, sharing images from a family holiday in the Maldives with his wife and four children. In the caption, he wrote: “Enjoying the half term…Time to recharge!”
The post received likes from several Chelsea players, including Robert Sanchez, Trevoh Chalobah, and Levi Colwill. Among the six pictures shared, one featured Maresca’s desk filled with stationery and football tactics books, suggesting that he is still studying the game and possibly preparing for a return to management when the opportunity arises.
Potential Return to Manchester City?
Maresca continues to be linked with a potential return to Manchester City. Reports suggest that the Italian could be considered as a possible replacement for Pep Guardiola should the Spanish manager decide to leave the club. Maresca previously worked with Guardiola, serving as both the manager of the club’s development team and as his assistant between 2020 and 2021, and again between 2022 and 2023.
His recent social media activity coincides with a rare public appearance just a few weeks ago. Maresca was seen in the director’s box during Leicester City’s Championship clash against Norwich City at the King Power Stadium. Alongside him were assistant managers Willy Cabellero and Danny Walker. The trio played a key role in leading Leicester to promotion from the Championship in the 2023/24 season before joining Chelsea the following summer.
There had been suggestions that Leicester had approached Maresca for the managerial position before the interim appointment of Gary Rowett. Rowett has now been tasked with keeping the club from relegation to the Championship for the remainder of the season.
A Mixed Legacy at Chelsea
During his time at Chelsea, Maresca took charge of 92 matches across all competitions, securing 55 wins, 16 draws, and 21 losses. He led the club to significant achievements, including the UEFA Conference League title and the Club World Cup. However, his tenure was also marked by a strained relationship with the club’s hierarchy.
The decision to part ways with Maresca has since been questioned by several players, including Enzo Fernandes and Marc Cucurella. Their comments highlight the mixed reception of his departure and the ongoing debate about the circumstances surrounding his exit.
As Maresca continues to stay active in football through various roles, fans and analysts alike are watching closely to see if he will make a return to the dugout in the near future. His latest social media post and public appearances suggest that he is not entirely out of the picture, and there may be more to come from the experienced Italian manager.
