News broke this week that production on their reality series, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, has been abruptly suspended due to allegations made between the pair.
A spokesperson for the Draper City Police Department in Utah confirmed that “allegations have been made in both directions,” indicating a complex and potentially sensitive situation. Paul and Mortensen share a one-year-old son, Ever, adding another layer of concern to the ongoing probe.
A Public Statement and a Denied Leak
In the wake of the investigation, Paul, whose highly anticipated season of The Bachelorette is slated to debut on March 22, has offered a brief public comment. Speaking to People, she described the situation as “a heavy time, and it’s unfortunate.”
Further elaborating to Entertainment Weekly (EW), Paul revealed that she and Mortensen are currently not in direct contact. All communications and arrangements for exchanging their son are being managed through a “third party.” This measure, she explained, was taken as a responsible step due to ongoing disagreements.
However, just hours after Paul’s statements, a representative for Mortensen pushed back against any suggestion that he was responsible for the investigation becoming public knowledge. The rep told EW that Mortensen’s “number one priority here is protecting their son, Ever.” While acknowledging that Mortensen was aware of the possibility of the investigation becoming public, the rep insisted he was not the one to proactively disclose it.
“He has always wanted a decent relationship with Taylor,” the representative stated. “It’s been really hard to achieve that, but he wants to co-parent well.” The representative emphasized that Mortensen had been hoping the situation would resolve itself quietly, a tactic he has employed in the past. “He was just hoping that if he says nothing, as he usually does, it would go away. He’s never done any kind of sit-down interview about his side,” the rep added. “He kind of just lets it all happen to him, and I think he realises with the severity of everything now that he just can’t do that.”

The suspension of filming for The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives comes as a significant disruption. The reality series, which has chronicled Paul and Mortensen’s relationship since its debut in 2024, has seen its production halted while authorities investigate the alleged incident.
While the Draper City Police Department has remained tight-lipped on the specifics of the case, they have confirmed that officers engaged with both Paul and Mortensen on February 24 and 25.
As Paul gears up for the premiere of The Bachelorette, she hinted at the differing approaches to managing the legal matters between her and Mortensen. Speaking to EW on Tuesday, she indicated that Mortensen did not share her desire to keep their personal issues out of the public spotlight.
“I took action a few weeks ago, and now everything is handled through a third party – including pick-ups, drop-offs, and communication – so there’s no direct contact right now,” Paul explained. “Honestly, it’s for the best, because we just weren’t getting along, so I had to take the most responsible action. I didn’t want to escalate things publicly, especially for the sake of my son and everything else that’s coming out. But that wasn’t Mortensen’s plan.”

In her first televised interview since the allegations surfaced, Paul addressed the mounting headlines on Good Morning America. She indicated a willingness to speak more openly about the situation when the timing felt appropriate.
“It’s been a tough time seeing the headlines, especially with The Bachelorette about to air, a time that’s supposed to be exciting,” she commented. “But I’m someone who speaks my truth, and when the moment is right, I will. Right now, I’m just trying to stay present and focus on what’s in front of me.”
The controversy has also stirred mixed reactions among Paul’s suitors on The Bachelorette. While sources close to EW claim the men were “blindsided” and “upset” by the unfolding drama, including reports of a hookup between Paul and Mortensen the night before she departed for filming, other reports from TMZ suggest the contestants believe the Paul they met on the show is consistent with her media portrayal, describing her as “genuine and well-intentioned.”
