From Heartache to Happiness: Farmer Benjamin’s Unexpected Journey to the Altar
A contestant who made a memorable, albeit early, exit from Farmer Wants a Wife in 2022, citing family tragedy, has sent shockwaves of delight through his fanbase by announcing his engagement. In a heartwarming twist, the farmer is set to marry a fellow participant from his season, proving that sometimes, love finds you when you least expect it.
Farmer Benjamin, a sheep farmer and self-proclaimed “agricultural enthusiast” hailing from Guyra in New South Wales, captured the hearts of viewers during his time on the Channel Seven reality dating show. His unique blend of quirky charm and creative spirit resonated with audiences, setting him apart from the other hopeful farmers.
At 33 years old, Benjamin was described as having “mesmerising eyes” and a distinctive bushy beard. He was also praised for his emotional openness, particularly a poignant moment where he orchestrated his flock of sheep into a massive heart shape. This moving tribute was created as a video message for his late Aunty Deb, whom he couldn’t be present to mourn during the COVID-19 pandemic due to travel restrictions. This touching display was prominently featured in the promotional materials for the 2022 season.
“I feel like I’ve got a lot of love to give,” Benjamin had shared in a promotional clip, expressing his deep desire to find a lasting connection. “I want to have that happen.”
A Sudden Departure and the Reasons Behind It
However, the journey for Farmer Benjamin on the show took an abrupt turn midway through the season. He delivered devastating news to fans and the three women vying for his affection – Erin, Hannah, and Lyndsay – by announcing his decision to leave the program. This unexpected departure left the remaining ladies in a state of shock.
The reason for his withdrawal was deeply personal. Benjamin was grappling with significant family heartache, having recently lost his grandmother. Compounding this grief, he had also been diagnosed with a “health issue” that prompted medical advice for him to cease filming.

“I’ve just got off the phone with my dad. I need to be with him and my family,” Benjamin explained at the time, his voice heavy with emotion. “I feel horrid that I have to jump ship right now, leave the ladies alone,” he added, clearly distressed by the circumstances. “There’s nothing else I can do.”
The three single women who had invested their hopes in Benjamin were remarkably understanding of his difficult situation.
- Erin, one of the contestants, shared the news with viewers, explaining, “He’s so unwell that he can no longer continue the show and the doctors have made the call for him to exit the show and we’re all going home.”
- Lyndsay expressed her well wishes for Benjamin’s recovery, stating, “All I hope for Benjamin is that he has a speedy recovery and that he has support. I wish I could be there for him, but unfortunately we can’t. I hope that when he feels better he reaches out, because I would like to continue where we left off.”
- Hannah, meanwhile, confessed her disappointment at having to leave, admitting she was “devastated” to be going home.

Hannah also conveyed her concern for Benjamin’s well-being, saying, “I care for him a lot, I’m worried about Benjamin, I’m worried about his health. We all hope he’s okay.”
A Surprising Reunion and a Future Together
Fast forward four years, and the narrative has taken an astonishing and joyous turn. It has been revealed that Hannah and Benjamin not only reconnected but have been quietly romancing, culminating in their recent engagement.
The couple shared their delightful news with their extensive social media following through a joint Instagram post on February 17th. Hannah, beaming alongside Benjamin in a photograph, captioned the announcement with palpable excitement: “Um…. YEP! The easiest yes of all, in every lifetime.” In the image, she proudly showcased a dazzling diamond ring, a symbol of their commitment.

The announcement was met with an outpouring of congratulatory messages from fellow Farmer Wants a Wife alumni, who expressed both their delight and surprise at the news.
- Tess Brookman, who found her own happiness with Farmer Harry Lloyd in the same season, exclaimed, “WEEEHOOO, over the moon for our faves.”
- Aleisha Mackail, a former fan favourite who had a brief relationship with Farmer Ben Scowen after the show, added, “Congratulations! This is amazing news.”
- Other fans joined in the chorus of well wishes, with one commenting, “Omg congratulations you too how fantastic,” and another adding, “Omfg congratulations !! Best news ever, so happy for you both!”
While Benjamin and Hannah had maintained a degree of privacy regarding their reconnection over the past few years, they officially “hard-launched” their relationship on their social media platforms in September 2023, signalling the beginning of their public romance. This unexpected union between two individuals who met under the spotlight of a reality show, faced personal challenges, and ultimately found their way back to each other, serves as a testament to the unpredictable and often beautiful paths that love can take.
